My first album was Madonna - self-titled. I think it was also the first time my mom ever set foot in a record store, because I dragged her there to get me this thing.
I don't remember for sure what my first single was, but I think it was "Pictures of You" by the Cure.
Well, since I seem to be the geezer around here, I'll admit it's for the LP, Davie Allen and the Arrows' "Blues Theme" (it was in stereo, so I had to pay an extra buck at Sears [3.99] ("Rubber Soul" was the next day.) The first singles were "California Dreamin' and "Day Tripper/We Can Work it Out" ($.69 each at the same Sears.) A footnote: this is the same Sears which was a block from my house and you could look out my backdoor in Compton to see the National Guardsmen all over the roof during the Watts' Riot, Aug., 1965.

"Naked Woman, Naked Man Where did you get that nice sun tan?"
That Madonna album was actually the very first CD I owned, but unfortunately, the very first album of any format I bought was Abba: The Album.
I can't remember exactly what single I first bought, because once I started buying them I bought a lot of them, but it may have been Soft Cell's "Tainted Love."
This thread should have been titled "Guess the age of each poster."

Why is that unfortunate? If you think that is unfortunate then you are lucky that my super duper very best ever extra long playing mix tapes of everything ABBA got lost somewhere along the way, because otherwise they would be playing often.
And I guess I didn't count records in my firsts, because the Madonna was the first thing I bought of my own free will and it was a tape. The first record I ever owned was 'Free to Be You and Me' and it was awesome. I also had a Loverboy record that I won at the fair and it sucked and I hated it.
Not that anyone here would ever engage in such nefarious activity, but I wonder if a file-sharer would be able to recall his/her first bootlegged song?

First album purchased would be Kiss-Love Gun. I was 10. I remember arguing with my mom and telling her that Kiss was better than the Beatles. Ahh...wasted youth, brainwashed by the Kiss Army.
My first record I bought was Pop Will Eat Itself's Box Frenzy. My first CD was Ice Cube's Amerikkka's Most Wanted which was once stolen when my house was robbed but I managed to track it down at a Flea Market and got it back!

Oh yeah, my first tape was the Beatles Rubber Soul.
