For those who buy new vinyl, what affects your decision to choose the vinyl version over the cd? Do you buy the vinyl for bonus tracks not on the cd?
This was the year that Cursive became a new-to-me band. After purchasing a few of their releases on used cds, I bought their comp The Difference Between Houses and Homes on vinyl. It's a real nice package that includes a 24 pg illustrated booklet (a story by Cursive member Tim Kasher, illustrations similiar to a children's tale). Cursive's sound always struck me as something I'd want to hear on vinyl- I can't describe it beyond wanting to hear their intense moods & those throaty vocals on vinyl. I wasn't disappointed.
Today I noticed a vinyl copy of Ryan Adam's Jacksonville City Nights that has four tracks not included on the cd (I think one song is a demo of a track on the album). I'm still deciding whether to get this, even though I do have the album on cd. Adams is one of my top favorite artists though I'm not sure I'm an Adams completist yet.
Gave in and bought the Adams Jacksonville City Nights gatefold, dbl LP. Real nice sound, loved the bonus tracks. The store had Cold Roses (no bonus tracks) but no 29.
Guess I'm not too surprised no one here's buying new vinyl. Usually I buy 20 lps a year, a mix of new and old albums. Since investing in a fairly decent phonograph back in '01, I try to listen to at least a couple vinyl platters a week. Even found the new Strokes single on 45 recently. Nice!
