Concur, Peewee. Orange Juice and Edwyn Collins don't get nearly the attention and acclaim they deserve. I'm pretty sure pE, mark, and flem_snopes (to name only a few) would agree.
I don't know that we've discussed it around the forums, but Edwyn Collins has been terribly ill. He suffered a cerebral hemorrhage in February. Last update I heard was posted to his website by his wife in late March. At that time, he was improving, but slowly.
Now Playing: "Taking a Walk" John Prine Fair and Square (Oh Boy)
Wow -- that's terrible about Collins. I should play some OJ in his honour. I heard about Mark Almond being in an accident but had not heard this about Edwyn Collins.

A friend of mine, who was looking to book Edwyn for a small US tour at the time of his hemhorrage, says that he's doing considerably better now.
Also, there's a US release coming (from Domino USA) that compiles early Orange Juice recordings on Postcard. Still no US release of any other Orange Juice stuff...I need to upgrade my old vinyl some day...
Originally posted by mark f: but with the possible exception of Peewee and flem, I bet I've been listening to the Stones albums (up to and including Exile) longer than anybody here.
Au Contraire, Mr. f!
I spent most of the 60's, 70's and 80's NOT listening to ANY Rolling Stones records.
And let me tell you, I took a LOT of guff from my contemporaries for not paying proper homage to what they considered to be the greatest band ever.

"this ain't smart, dude... this ain't art dude; this is sonic economics and i'll put it on a graph for you to prove"
I'm just randomly trying to one up people. Don't mind me.
Actually, I'm a time traveler, and I went back in time to the Cro-Magnon time and witnessed the first ever performance of the Rocks-Banged-Together based masterpiece, 'Ugh ugh ugh'. All modern musicians you're all referring to? They wouldn't exist today if it weren't for the Rocks-Bnaged-Together genius Ugh Ughman.
NOTE FROM THE MODERATORS: Peewee is not crazy. He is responding to a now-deleted spam post from one of the "street-teamers" who pollute our fair Forums. The post, as you may guess, was plugging a new Maria McKee record. Now, back to our regularly scheduled program.
I like Maria McKee too. I think her solo albums have been mixed, but there's great stuff on them. Of course, Lone Justice's debut is a classic.

I have to disagree!!!!!! I have never posted here before but I had to join and post just to respond to this. Van Morrison's albums are full of standout tracks! On Veedon Fleece alone you have "Linden Arden Stole the Highlights," "Streets of Arklow," and "You Don't Pull No Punches, But You Don't Push The River." "Caravan," "Into The Mystic" ! And on Too Long in Exile you have "Too Long in Exile," "Big Time Operators," "Lonely Avenue," "Till We Get The Healing Done," "Gloria," and "I'll Take Care of You/Tell Me What You Want." These are all fantastic!!
You may be right, but I only have Astral Weeks, Moondance, His Band and Street Choir, Tupelo Honey, and St Dominic's Preview, so I can't really comment on the two you mention.
Reading Griel Marcus' Mystery Train last week brought Randy Newman back into my mindI think that Randy Newman is one of the best songwriters I have ever heard, and find at least a few great songs on every album of his. Sail Away is one of my 10 favorite albums of all time. He seems to get forgotten altogether, or even worse, is simply remembered now as that guy from toy story and Monsters Inc. Anyone else think that he does not get nearly the credit he deserves anymore?
Young is one of my ten favorite artists, but save for Old Man I think this album is really lame. The first few sound like watered down version of After the Gold Rush and Alabama is a lame imitation of Southern Man.
Hmmm, I like Harvest, but it may be a bit overrated. It's no After the Gold Rush. An underrated Neil Young album? Harvest Moon (despite the horrid "Such A Woman").
