Another '90's band that's recently gone downhill (IMO) is Counting Crows. I enjoyed their first four albums quite a bit, but their new one is beyond bland. It's strange too because the whole band is touting it as their "comeback" disc... but they never really left.
Yeah. I really agree with Counting Crows. I really didn't care for Hard Candy though. And their new one might be a "comeback" in the sense that it has been like 6 or 7 years since they released an album before.

Oh man, I felt the same way about Riot Act when I initially heard it. But recently I was craving some Pearl Jam, return to ma roots sort of deal, and decided to listen to that. To my surprise I really enjoyed it; I was blown away actually. Every track just flowed smoothly, it just sounds drastically different, with a lot less of a hard rocking grunge edge, than almost anything they've made so it's harder to adjust to at first. I don't think it's as meandering as Yield or No Code, but there is of course some mediocre filler at 15 tracks. I'd suggest giving it another full listen if you haven't heard it in a while.
Also, Shadrach, "Nothing as it Seems" is one of my favorite Pearl Jam songs, but I really can't stand that album - it's just a sloppy mess. I really think they redeemed themselves with Riot Act but their fan base was so detached by then that it didn't register. Hence their self titled.
As for something relevant to this topic, I can't really come up with any that haven't been mentioned. It's so hard to look through ones favorite 'artists' and try to pick out something that qualifies as a 'jump the shark' album - I take a pretty defensive stand on my musical tastes. I was going to say 'Disintegration', 'Sea Change', and 'The Moon and Antarctica' just to be a dick (I like all of those and their successors so it wouldn't make sense). Although, to the founder of this thread four years ago, listing Fugazi's 'Red Medicine'. WTF?
Oh, I missed a somewhat obvious one: Weezer - Green Album Granted I really like the singles, "Hash Pipe" and "Island In the Sun", and to an extent "Photograph", but the rest of it was a (bad) sign of things to come, save for "Keep Fishin'", "Death and Destruction", and "Perfect Situation" IMO. Maybe this new one will work out... not.
I quite liked Hard Candy back in the day, but I don't think I've heard it in the last 3 years. Might need to pop that in in the next few days.
------ Aren't there any girls out their who like good music? I need to and want to meet them. My favorite bands are Overkill River, The Nife, Songs:Ohio, and Nuetral Milk Hotel. Please let me know if your into indy music and like to go to show's and drink beer's and makeout.
How about Jack Johnson with "Sleep Through The Static"? Is it just me or is something really missing from that album? It's just too bland and boring. Maybe it's just hearing the same style over and over again...

I always liked Riot Act, something about it just stood out, excellent track placement maybe, kind of a different approach. But I haven't listened to any new Pearl Jam hardly at all. Just like a high maintenance woman, I'll ignore Pearl Jam for a while, but I'll come back eventually.
