Well, I for one feel like the avant-garde thread is getting a bit, bloated and it gets a lot more use than say the country, classical or world forums.

So I'm taking matters into my own hands and making a poll.

Question:
Should their be an avant-garde forum?

Choices:
Yes
No
I actually miss Hudson and don't feel like contributing to this poll

I voted "Yes", but I also miss Hudson.

There should definitely be an avant garde forum, but I'm not sure what it's for.

It appears to be full of posts by people, saying things like:

'I've just been listening to Alfred Clock and the power-mice. Their brand of psycho infused industrial banana music is much better than the relatively communist strains of Virtual Hockey Squadron. It sounds sort of like cake, with a mixture of jealousy and several deformed badgers gargling with garden sheds. Thank you Susan, the cheese fingers will be moist by 4 o'clock tomorrow morning. Wibble etc'

I should add that I love avant garde music, including works by John Zorn, Stockhausen, Frank Zappa and various bits of Mike Patton. That's why I think the subject should stay open for discussion but I have to admit, I rarely know what anyone is talking about over there.

It would appear that I'm just not keeping up with modern trends these days! Either that or the whole thing is a post-modern satirical joke and none of those artists actually exist.

Actually, I just checked and there doesn't appear to be an avant garde forum. I'm almost positive there was one a while back.

Not keeping up with modern trends indeed!

i'm too avant-gardist to answer that poll... and what the hell is avant-garde for you guys anyway? indie artists that creates new music styles? or totally "free" artists? About what i've read about avant-garde, is that you can record a bunch of noise for 1 hour and be called an avant-garde artist... That's ok with me, but i won't listen to that shit Razzer

Duncan, I think you'd actually like several of the bands listed here, no?

Actually - I have several albums by artists on that list. Mr Bungle are probably my favourite band of all time. I went to see them live once in Nottingham Rock City.

However, I've not been keeping up with Sleepytime Gorilla Museum nearly enough. I am constantly informed that I should.

Thanks for pointing that out.

a resounding yes. for no other reason than that we won't have to filter through the latest "indie-rock" bands to find the thread. if we don't get our own forum, can you at least toss the thread into classical? or metal?
