Quote from Nate: "No love for the hip-hop classics I see...."

(fetish replies): Hey, I listed: "Wu Tang Clan - "Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), as one of many 'Greatest Albums'....??

Regarding Hip-Hop Albums, I don't think I could live without (in my opinion), these essential Hip-Hop albums.

1) Dr Octagon - "The Octagonecologyst"
2) Quasimoto - "The Unseen"
3) The Roots - "Things fall Apart"
4) Beastie Boys - "Pauls Boutique"
5) Edan - "Primitive Plus"
6) Boom Bip & Doseone - "Circles"
7) A Tribe Called Quest - "The Low End Theory"
8) Mos DEF - "Black on Both Sides"
9) Blackalicious - "Blazing Arrow"
10) Prefuse 73 - Vocal Studies & Uprock Narratives

Xzibit in the top 10 albums in hip hop history?Or top ten in any genre?

Wow...are u feeling ok.

I'm feeling fine. Have you ever actually listened to the whole album? It might be the best West Coast album of the past 10 years (either that or '2001' by Dre). Every beat is solid (some even spectacualar), and Xzibit sounds hungry and motivated. Most hip-hop heads I know would agree that AtSoL is a classic album. I could have thrown a Kool G Rap album or even any of the early KRS albums in there, but I chose Xzibit because I still bump that CD to this day.

Uh yeah...i dont comment on albums that i have not heard/own or have listened too many times before.I am sorry that xzibit and as well as all xzibit albums are good for a trash fire and thats about it.

Thats just my opinion.I have been a huge rap/hip-hop fan for a long time...and i cannot say that there has been an important west coast rap album in a long long long....very long time. The original chronic maybe...2001 was ok...but extremely over hyped.

Sorry sport, but that's only nine records. Also, Queens of the Stone Age seems a bit out of place there. And you fell out of that Album-Artist scheme on the last one.

6. OK Computer - Radiohead

I think what some people are saying is that it's hard to claim something is a list of the 'best albums ever', if it's clearly confined within a rather narrow aesthetic, such as one or two genres from the 80s and 90s. It probably would have been better to say 'My favorite ten albums' or something, because the list obviously does not represent a comprehensive cross-section of modern music.

That said, here's my list.

1) Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced?
2) Joni Mitchell - Blue
3) Bob Dylan - Blonde On Blonde
4) Nirvana - Nevermind
5) Rolling Stones - Exile On Main St
6) Nirvana - In Utero
7) Tool - Aenema
8) Beatles - Revolver
9) The Who - Quadrophenia
10) Joni Mitchell - Court & Spark

What's wrong with a Queens of the Stone Age album on someone's list? I think they're one of the best bands of all time.

Anyway, here's my picks:

1. Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
2. Smashing Pumpkins - Adore
3. Radiohead - Amnesiac
4. Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf
5. The Dears - No Cities Left
6. Neil Young - After the Goldrush
7. Led Zeppelin - III
8. Opeth - Blackwater Park
9. Tom Waits - Swordfishtrombones
10. Sonic Youth - Sister

hemorrhoids- cool list. Glad to see someone else with Randy Newman in their top ten.

I don't know, maybe I'm just not out there enough, but even though I own and love almost every Beefheart album, I still like Safe As Milk best.

Having trouble in differentiating a DID list from a Greatest, but this looks like fun. Here goes...

Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
Soft Bulletin - Flaming Lips
Kid A - Radiohead
In the Aeroplane over the Sea - NMH
In a Silent Way - Miles Davis
Yankee Hotel Foxtrot - Wilco
Revolver - Beatles
Bryter Layter - Nick Drake
Going for the One - Yes
Young Team - Mogwai

My very first post here, so hi everyone. This looks a great forum.

Now playing: Aim - Cold Water Music

Fond as I am of top ten lists, this discussion is waaaaay too close to the Desert Island Discs discussion. I disapprove of having the discussion split between two threads!!

I agree with you Peewee, but there's no way to move all of these posts into another thread. That's why you're supposed to make sure there's not already a suitable existing post when you start a thread.

They're two different topics, though, even if most of the lists in this thread look more like Desert Island lists.

(Personally, I think that Desert Island Discs is a much better topic.)

When I started a thread that was already in existence (favourite lyrics) my thread got deleted!

I used to be a regular post-er (and monitor) on Rolling Stone's chat rooms. One of the problems with their rooms was there were TOO MANY! It was just exhausting to try to go through them all. I think there are already too many discussions going on here, so the result is I just visit the same few over and over rather than venture out onto new discussion boards. Down with excessive discussion topics!!!!!

I agree that, in theory, "ten best discs ever" is different from "desert island discs", but for all intents and purposes people treat them as the same thing.

They're extremely similar, but not the same.

Court & Spark is better than Elephant or Doolittle. But, I already have Blue, so why would I use a second of my ten choices on Court & Spark?

We were able to delete your topic because it was fairly new and all of the posts were saved by the authors. This one would be hard to change. If the EVE software allowed me to, I'd do a whole lot of combining, but I can't. I try to cut the repetitive topics off when they start, but this one's got three pages, so it's too far gone.

While I think there is a difference between a DID topic and greatest albums ever (meaning that you might think an album was one of the GREATEST but not want it with you on an island), I think that the person who started this topic was really giving a DID list. If you can honestly tell me that the 10 greatest albums ever were all indie rock records recorded after 1985, I'll have to assume you don't have a very wide exposure to music and/or you're a Pitchfork scribe.

Desert Island Discs evoke more of a "I could listen to this music forever." Just because you enjoy listening to it doesn't mean you think it is the best album or one of the best albums ever made. As I've said before, I think I could listen to Pinkerton everyday and not get tired of it, but I wouldn't put it in my Top Ten list because it didn't really push any boundaries or do anything new/special. Anyway, this would be my list... (with all different artists to promote variety, affirmative-action style)

1. Bringing It All Back Home (Dylan)
2. The Velvet Underground and Nico
3. London Calling (Clash)
4. Exile on Main Street (Rolling Stones)
5. Rubber Soul or Abbey Road (Beatles)
6. OK Computer (Radiohead)
7. Elephant (White Stripes)
8. The Stone Roses
9. The Queen is Dead (Smiths)
10. Pet Sounds (Beach Boys)

Honorable Mention: Blue, In the Aeroplane over the Sea, Soft Bulletin, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, Funeral, Stankonia
