Question:
Well although my 2001 thread and poll has gotten little or no responses, I figured I would post poll and discussion threads for 2000, 2002 and 2003. This is the 2000 thread, which was truly a monster year for music in that Radiohead, Eminem, Outkast, Sigur Rós, Talib Kweli, Queens of the Stone Age, Common, Jill Scott and Modest Mouse may have arguably released their best albums (I know many will like OK Computer more, including myself, but some do prefer Kid A.) Anyway, the top 5 will be in the poll. List who you picked, why, comments on my list and any you feel were left out:

1. Radiohead- Kid A
2. Eminem- The Marshall Mathers LP
3. Outkast- Stankonia
4. Sigur Rós- Ágætis Byrjun
5. Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek- Reflection Eternal
6. Queens of the Stone Age- Rated R
7. Common- Like Water for Chocolate
8. The White Stripes- De Stijl
9. Jill Scott- Who is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1
10. Modest Mouse- The Moon & Antarctica
11. The New Pornographers- Mass Romantic
12. U2- All That You Can’t Leave Behind

Choices:
Radiohead- Kid A
Eminem- The Marshall Mathers LP
Outkast- Stankonia
Sigur Rós- Ágætis Byrjun
Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek- Reflection Eternal

Kid A is a milestone for me, on both personal and esoteric reasons! Ha! That's so true that it's friggin' hilarious. Cool

I give Kid A a narrow edge over Modest Mouse's TM&A. It also seemed like it was a pretty great year for Alt-Country/Americana. Ryan Adams' "Heartbreaker" also has to be a strong contender for album of the year. My underrated classic albums for this year are Cat Power's "The Covers Record" and Clem Snide's "Your Favorite Music".

Other 2000 Greats missing from your list:

Yo La Tengo: And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside -Out
Sleater-Kinney: All Hands on the Bad One
Steve Earle: Trancendental Blues
Badly Drawn Boy: The Hour of the Bewilderbeast
Ryan Adams: Heartbreaker
Merle Haggard: If I Could only Fly
Billy Bragg & Wilco: Mermaid Ave Vol 2
Elliot Smith: Figure 8
Emmylou Harris: Red Dirt Girl
Eels: Daisies of the Galaxy
Delgados: The Great Eastern
Cat Power: The Covers Record
Clem Snide: Your Favorite Music

1 - Radiohead – Kid A
2 - Grandaddy – Sophtware Slump
3 - Modest Mouse – The Moon and Antarctica
4 - Damien Jurado – Ghost of David
5 - Ryan Adams – Heartbreaker
6 - Eels – Daisies of the Galaxy
7 - Delgados – The Great Eastern
8 – Califone - Califone EP
9 - Virginia Coalition – Townburg
10 - Elliott Smith – Figure 8
11 – Ween – White Pepper
12 - Mum – Yesterday Was Dramatic-Today Is OK
13 - Onelinedrawing – Sketchy EP #2
14 - Sufjan Stevens – A Sun Came
15 - American Analog Set – Know By Heart
16 - Dispatch – Silent Steeples
17 - Dispatch – Bang Bang
18 - Songs: Ohia – Ghost Tropic
19 - Nickel Creek – Nickel Creek
20 – Mouse On Mars – Niun Niggung

I like those Delgados and Eels picks, Eric.

I've got Kid A at number one, but I don't really see it as being a lot better than everything else. There are a couple songs on it that I don't like at all ("Kid A" and "National Anthem"). I could have easily put 3 or 4 other albums at number 1.

Radiohead's #1, but I think Primal Scream's 'XTRMNTR' is #2. After that...Sigur Ros, New Pornographers (Mass Romantic was released in late 2000 I think), Sleater-Kinney, Steve Earle, Outkast, and Modest Mouse.

Those are pretty much the second tier, for me.

Edit: Yep! Mass Romantic was November 21, 2000. I think it didn't make 2000 lists though, so everyone thinks it's 2001.

I forgot to add one very excellent album from 2000. It also fits with my prior theory that 2000 was a great year for Alt-Country/Americana. Richard Buckner's "The Hill". Buckner sets Edgar Lee Masters' "Spoon River Anthology" to music and uses Calexico's Joey Burns and John Covertino as his backing band. If you can get past the fact that the album is annoying programmed into one long track (forcing you to listen to the album in its entirety), it's an amazing listen that flows like no other country/folk album.

I voted for Agaetis Byrjun. It's close with Kid A, but Sigur Ros pulls it out by a hair. Both albums belong to their own world. Those two could also fight it out for best cover art. Both images captured the music perfectly. If you throw The Sophtware Slump in there, it would fall at #2.

I agree with SDF - two '10's for me, with Sigur Ros winning by a hair mostly due to my memory of the most affecting live show that I've ever seen. 2000 was a pretty strong year as I recall:-

1 Sigur Ros : Ágætis Byrjun
2 Radiohead : Kid A
3 P.J. Harvey : Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea
4 Super Furry Animals : Mwng
5 Yo La Tengo : And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out
6 The Doves : Lost Souls
7 Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek : Reflection Eternal
8 The White Stripes : De Stijl
9 Jack Johnson : Brushfire Fairytales
10 Bjork : Selmasongs
11 Magnetic Fields : 69 Love Songs Vols. 2&3
12 Coldplay : Parachutes
13 Blonde Redhead : Melody Of Certain Damaged Lemons
14 Clinic : Internal Wrangler
15 Idlewild : 100 Broken Windows
16 Manitoba : Start Breaking my Heart
17 The Dandy Warhols : Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia
18 Modest Mouse : The Moon And Antarctica
19 Outkast : Stankonia
20 Badly Drawn Boy : The Hour of Bewilderbeast

I know that there has to be some new people and also old people that would like to shar their lists of the top albums of 2000 or even mention an album or two.

My personal list has changed quite a bit, so I will need to re-post it. Personally, I love these kind of lists because it gives us a chance to debate some choices and also find new stuff that we have't heard.

For 2000, the only thing I can think of off the top of my head is Radiohead's "Kid A" and the Avalanches' "Since I Left You."

Beulah's "When Your Heartstrings Break" might be 2000, in which case it's definitely up there. I keep getting conflicted information if it's 2000 or 1999.

Aren't there any girls out their who like good music? I need to and want to meet them. My favorite bands are Overkill River, The Nife, Songs:Ohio, and Nuetral Milk Hotel. Please let me know if your into indy music and like to go to show's and drink beer's and makeout.

01. Modest Mouse: The Moon & Antarctica
02. Radiohead: Kid A
03. Outkast: Stankonia
04. Yo La Tengo: And then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out
05. The New Pornographers: Mass Romantic
06. Godspeed: Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven
07. The Microphones: It Was Hot, We Stayed in the Water
08. Badly Drawn Boy: Hour of the Bewildebeast
09. Sleater-Kinney: All Hands on the Bad One
10. Le Tigre: Le Tigre

I counted The Avalanches and Sigur Rós as 2001 releases...If anything, I think your 2001 and 2000 titles should be switched. I'm not sure 2000 was the best year, though my top 2 are perfect albums in my opinion.

I don't know if 2000 was the "best year" but I do find it to be pretty strong. My list has changed too much to keep up with it and I don't agree with some of the rankings on here but these albums I just love and they are ranked relatively decent:
