This may be me walking out on a limb, but David Bowie solo is slightly better than Tin Machine Cool

I'm sorry. I was being slightly mischievous when I said Bob Dylan, but I never imagined it would end so spectacularly.

I love the New Pornographers with all of my heart, but I reckon A.C. Newman's "The Slow Wonder" is better than any single New Porns album.

The first person I thought of was Brian Eno.

Mark Knopfler is much better than Dire Straits.

"[...]To all of which, I admit, I had nothing to answer, for it was but the truth. So I refrained from launching into useless palavers and quibbling, and, immediately drawing the two pistols which I had in my belt, I fired them both, by way of argument, into the faces of this droll fellow and his accomplice, which spared me the necessity of speech and ended the quarrel in the best possible way." - Louis Adhémar Timothée Le Golif

The Traveling Wilburys. And I agree, his solo stuff is better.

LOL. Wasn't he also in "The Band"? Or at least he played a small part on the Basement Tapes album

Roger Ebert is fat. I like Roeper better without him because with Roeper, there are also celebrity guests

I'm surprised nobody said Panda Bear yet. I'd personally disagree with you, but I can understand liking Person Pitch over any Animal Collective album.

A newer artist that comes to mind is Jenny Lewis. Her solo album with the Watson Twins is a lot better than any Rilo Kiley album.

Ryan Adams' Heartbreaker is better than any Whiskeytown album. Although, its questionable as to whether his solo career is better than his former band. I'll take the Whiskeytown body of work over his solo stuff anyday.

One more old one that's just as important as Neil Young. Van Morrison's solo output easily trumps Them.

I agree with all your suggestions except this one. While that's a pretty good album, I think the More Adventurous and Under the Blacklight by Rilo Kiley are stronger. She definitely could make a solo album that is better than those two, but I don't think she has yet. Also, everyone knows that her crowning achievement so far as been playing Fred Savage's girlfriend in the Nintendo commercial, er, I mean, the movie The Wizard Smiler.

I know there aren't a lot of pop fans around, but what about Beyonce, Gwen Stefani, Justin Timberlake, etc.?

I think Sting is a good example of the opposite situation.

More Adventurous is pretty good. So is Execution of All Things. The new one, Under the Blacklight is dreadfully, embarassignly, awful. I'll take the Watson Twins album over all of them, personally. "Born Secular" is the best thing she's done.

That's a grotesque overstatement. It isn't that bad. There are plenty of 2007's supposedly great albums that are a hell of a lot worse.
