It's my pleasure to announce
In conjunction with the fed
And my recent popularity
Thanks in part to mother nature
It will never rain again
It should do wonders for the GNP

If you're just joining us now
You missed a brilliant speech
We go now live in the streets
To find out what the voters think
He's worked a miracle
I just now bought a brand new car

God bless the Indian summer
God bless the Indian summer"

Awesome. And so sadly true in so many ways.

I don't understand these lyrics.

I interpretted them as this: Politicians are constantly standing up and taking credit for something comepletely ridiculous that they obviously had no control over, such as the weather. In addition, the public always acts like they are interested in society and the environment, whatever, but they really only pay attention to the economy and what will make them feel good at this moment.

The words to the song remind me of a scene pulled straight out of "Animal Farm". A politician standing up infront of the public and selling them destruction by telling them it will make them feel good and they will make money. And then when personal hard work pays off and something is achieved by the average person, it was of course "a miracle" worked by the politician proving the fact that what they said before was true.

I can sort of understand that. I can understand bits and pieces of those lyrics; it's just that it seems to be really unfocused and jump from place to place to me.

Maybe it makes less sense when you write it all out line by line. Do you listen to much Pedro the Lion? He was my favorite artist for a long time. His game was sort of trumped by Sufjan though.

I think the healthiest way forward is to always separate the artist from the art.
I would go as far to say it's worth removing the musician from the music. I feel total sympathy with folk like Underground Resistance who would rather not put themselves or their ego in front of the music, and leave the listener the pleasure of creating their own story from what they hear.
