Hypothetically speaking, if you could choose the last song you hear before you die, what would it be? Try and think of a song, not an album.

And sorry to the forum moderators if this has already been covered.

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought it referred to the song which you would never ever want to hear again.

ha ha I've got a few of those.

But, for a tune I would love to fade out to...mmm..maybe Jonathan Richman's Tag Game; a song which brings me total unadulterated joy, and which would remind me that life is about art and play.

Oh, could I feel as I have felt, or be what I have been,
Or weep as I could once have wept, o'er many a vanished scene;
As springs in deserts found seem sweet, all brackish though they be,
So, midst the withered waste of life, those tears would flow to me.

I think we have a thread about songs to play if you had 10 minutes left to live, and I believe I posted the very appropriate "How To Disappear Completely" by Radiohead. But since that didn't fill out the 10 (yeah, I know, since it's "technically" a different thread, I shouldn't do this), I'd add any Beatles song under three minutes. That's about a hundred great ones!

I would want to hear What Is The Light? by The Flaming Lips. I think then I would be able to sa that I died beautifully.

"Dignified and Old" by the Modern Lovers would be a nice pick as well.

I was going to pick that, so, how about "I will follow you.." by Death Cab.

I'm hoping that song won't be recorded for another 50 or so years.

Otherwise, I'd choose the most gorgeous soul song I've ever heard- Aretha Franklin's "Until You Come Back to Me".

I think that would make a pretty good thread...

and sorry mark, I looked around for a similar thread. Frowner

as for my own song, I have no idea yet. hopefully I'll think of one, but I'm betting its a Beatles song, maybe a day in the life.

Sorry about that. It was actually this thread. That one's a little more specific.

As for happy songs I'd want to here
one of these three:
Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)-Arcade Fire
1979-Smashing Pumpkins

Kudos to the guy who said I Will Follow You Into the Dark.
Good song.

if you have a chanse, leave some flowers on algernon's grave in the bak yard.

One I've only just recently heard for the first time and was blown away by:

Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Powderfinger.

Hmm...
I'd probably go with either
"Asleep" By The Smiths
or
"An Ending (Ascent)" by Brian Eno

But you could ask me a few weeks from now and my choices might be completely different.

Good one. I'd go with a different song from the same album though:

Radiohead - "Motion Picture Soundtrack"

Most of the choices seem to be a bit mournful, I'm going to die, I may as well make it memorable. Go out in a blaze of glory with 17 hookers, a bucket of vodka, a midget serving cocaine and some loud as hell Led Zepplin. That's decadence.

Or relaxing at home when I'm 92 with God Only Knows

Great choice.

I pick Yo La Tengo's "The Last Days of Disco." So peaceful and nostalgic and sad and gorgeous.

That's fantastic. How about charging into battle to Holst's "Mars, the Bringer of War"?

Iron and Wine - "Upward Over the Mountain"

Just a beautiful song and I like the idea of my soul (or whatever) flying up over the mountains...

If I had a choice, like Edward G. Robinson had in Soylent Green, I'd probably pick Holst's Planets: Jupiter. That would make me happy. Otherwise, something more modernistically-cool, like "How Soon Is Now?" by the Smiths!!

Of course, that's in addition to my earlier comment. My friends and family will be fighting to extend my worthless life, so maybe I can have all of 'em. Cool
