Eh. Most of the shit that gets celebrated over here is over-hyped.
Dark was the night Animal Collective Antony and the Johnsons The-Dream Neko Case Pains of being pure at heart Wavves Jon Hopkins is probably slightly over-hyped. But it's still pretty good.
I like The Dream record a lot. Some of my friends kept changing my song choices and playing The Dream and I was at first annoyed but I'm pretty fond of the record at this point.
The only album that comes to mind for me is Wavvves.
I also don't understand what is so great about the Wavves album, or The-Dream, but I am a fan of The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, Dark Was The Night, Antony & The Johnsons. I would agree that the new Animal Collective is overhyped as well, it never really stuck with me after I gave it a few listens.
-------------------- The sea is a good place to think about the future
I don't agree that Antony & the Johnsons was overhyped per se, but I definitely overrated by some sources (i.e. Pitchfork). I see overhyped and overrated as different things.
I think that generally, I see new bands as being overhyped when they put out a debut that doesn't match up to its acclaim.
------ Aren't there any girls out their who like good music? I need to and want to meet them. My favorite bands are Overkill River, The Nife, Songs:Ohio, and Nuetral Milk Hotel. Please let me know if your into indy music and like to go to show's and drink beer's and makeout.

I agree. there is a difference between overhyped and overrated. And I keep track of what is going on in the music world quite regularly from lots of different sources, and I haven't seen a great deal said about the new Antony and the Johnsons album. Most of what I've heard was from a few people here saying they liked it.
---------------------------- There's an ember in the rafters and it's gonna burn this whole thing down.
When i think of over-hyped in 2009, Wavves and Dan Deacon immediately pop to mind. I feel that they are only mediocre at best, but the critics love them because they are riding a certain trend. In their cases, it is lo-fi and weird avant garde, respectively.
Image doesn't matter if the music sounds like crap.
Well, I don't see how the answers can be anything but Animal Collective and Grizzly Bear. Both have been hyped to such an extent that you'd think we had the two albums of the decade on our hands.
Neither lives up to that kind of hype in any way.

ehehe. Dan Deacon is nowhere near weird for avant garde. He is the Elton John of avant garde, if anything.
