Here is a thread to gush about what you are excited about. All anticipated and even hopeful 2009 releases can be discussed here.
Here is what I am looking forward to in just the beginning of the year:
January 13: Animal Collective – Merriweather Post Pavilion (Domino) (LP-01/13, CD-01/20) January 20: Antony and the Johnsons – The Crying Light (Secretly Canadian) Januray 20: A.C. Newman – Get Guilty (Matador) January 20: Andrew Bird – Noble Beast w/ Useless Creatures bonus disc (Fat Possum) January 27: Franz Ferdinand – Tonight: Franz Ferdinand (Domino) February 10: Dan Auerbach (of The Black Keys) – Keep it Hid (Nonesuch) March 3: Neko Case – Middle Cyclone (ANTI-) March 10: Handsome Furs – Face Control (Sub Pop) March 24: The Decemberists – Hazards of Love (Capitol)
I am really looking forward to all of those but I especially want to hear what Franz Ferdinand have cooked up. I really love both of their albums (the second one might be the best!) and they took a long break before making a new one. All of the aforementioned are highligh anticipated by me though.
And oh yeah, here is the cover to the Neko Case album. Boy, she is SO hot. I've met her in person and yeah, she is beautiful.
----- Never say you miss her, never say a word. And do everything she'd never do.

The Avett Brothers: TBA ---Their first LP on a major label, produced by Rick Rubin. Should be released in late-spring, summer I'm thinking.

Andrew Bird: Noble Beast/Useless Creatures (January)
U2: No Line on the Horizon (March) ---One can hope that they can rekindle the magic of their earlier years.
Sin Fang Bous: Clangour (February) ---Debut solo album from frontman of Seabear.
Excited for...to some extent:
Franz Ferdinand: Tonight: Franz Ferdinand (January) ---I own both of their LPs, but I haven't listened to them for awhile, and I kinda regret buying them... not a big fan of these guys, but I can't deny they write some good foot stompers.
The Boy Least Likely To: The Master of the Playground (March)
The Decemberists: Hazards of Love (March) ---I only own one Decemberists album (The Crane Wife) but I think if I got into them more, I'd love them.
Handsome Furs: Face Control (March) ---Really getting into their debut album as of late.
More anticipated releases I expect to hear from:
White Stripes: Wikipedia says they'll have one out this year
Fleet Foxes: Robin Pecknold has stated a couple of times on MySpace blog posts that they'll have one out by the end of this year.
Beck: Already working on follow-up of Modern Guilt.
And last but not least...
Sufjan Stevens: So you would think after 3 years... I can hope...

Yeah, I have a hard time believe anyone will beat that album cover the rest of the year. It's classic. And I hope the music is matches it.
I wasn't too impressed by her last album very much, aside from a few amazing songs that I had heard before I bought the album. But I listened to it again the other day in a different context having not listened to several of the songs on repeat for three weeks prior to hearing the whole album, and it was very fresh and enjoyable from start to finish.

Wow. You have to listen to Picaresque, it's their pinnacle so far. All of their albums have great songs though.

I'm very very excited about this. All of the teasers for it sound very strong. And the Russian theme gets me even more interested. I love it.
I'm also excited about a possible Sunset Rubdown album. These guys are giants.

Her last album was my #1 of 2006, and it has never really disappointed when I've gone back to it. Here's hoping that the new one is just as good.
Also looking forward to listening to Decemberists, Thermals, Morrissey, and Asobi Seksu.
------ Aren't there any girls out their who like good music? I need to and want to meet them. My favorite bands are Overkill River, The Nife, Songs:Ohio, and Nuetral Milk Hotel. Please let me know if your into indy music and like to go to show's and drink beer's and makeout.

Are you familiar with her work before that one? I highly recommend Furnace Room Lullaby and Blacklisted is probably her best. Her first album, The Virginian, isn't shabby either. She has a solid catalog so far.

I am very very excited for: K'naan- Troubadour Handsome Furs: Face Control Sunset Rubdown- TBA
I really really want the new Springsteen to be great, but I have accepted it's fate as another average album. I'm sure there will be some tracks on it that I will love, but overall it won't be anything special. He needs to hook back up with the Seeger Sessions band.

Most anticipated is definitely the new Massive Attack LP. Portishead was able to rekindle interest in trip-hop last year, lets hope the other of the big two in the genre can pull through.

Picaresque, Castaways & Cutouts, Her Majesty, The Tain...get them all! This is one of the best bands of the decade, and you would be a fool to miss out on their engrossing music.

Alright. I'll check out Picaresque first. The Decemberists are one of those bands that I've never really had a huge interest in listening to, but when I picked up The Crane Wife, I was blown away upon first listen. It's still a record I like a lot, but there's something about the band which doesn't really make me want to come back to them much. Can't put my finger on it.
Maybe it's all the old-fashioned talk about Valencia, and such. Anyways, I'll see what I can do about changing that.
IMO you can't go wrong with any Decemberists album, though I can see why their early work got a lot of comparisons to NMH. "Her Majesty" and "Picaresque" are two of my favorites of this decade, though, and Castaways/Cutouts and Crane Wife aren't far behind.

Roger O'Donnell: Songs From the Silver Box (Ex-keyboardist from The Cure. His instrumental -sometimes featuring guest vocalist Erin Lang- solo work is really great. He uses a moog.)
Lily Allen: It's Not Me, It's You
Asobi Seksu: Hush (Citrus was possibly one of the best albums from this decade. I'm super excited about this one.)
Telepathe: Dance Mother
Black Lips: 200 Million Thousand
The Boy Least Likely To: The Law of the Playground
Arbouretum: Song of the Pearl (Released a really good album in 2007. I'm very interested in this one.)
Dan Deacon: Bromst
Grizzly Bear: untitled ATM
Valet: untitled ATM (More people should check them out. They're from Kranky .)
Interested in But Not Crazy About:
My Dear Disco: Dancethink (I never heard of this band until now. I like artist names or album titles with the word "disco" in it. It's my gay chromosomes that attract me to that word.)
Andrew Bird: Noble Beast
Bat For Lashes: Fur and Gold (I didn't really care for her debut. I believe she has something better up her sleeve. Lets hope this is it.)
Franz Ferdinand: Tonight: Franz Ferdinand (Never that crazy for this band. Their debut was pretty good. I didn't care for their second album.)
Loney Dear: Dear John (Some talk around here about this guy (or band), so I though I would check it out.)
Of Montreal: An Eluardian Instance and Jon Brion Remix EPs
Hauschka: Snowflakes and Car Wrecks EP
Eluvium: Life Through Bombardment (7 LP box set. Sounds interesting.)
Handsome Furs: Face Control
Phosphorescent: To Willie
The Von Bondies: Love, Hate and Then There's You (I know I'm going to hate this album. But it wont stop me from giving it a listen.)
Abe Vigoda: Reviver EP
...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead: The Century of Self
Here We Go Magic: Here We Go Magic (Another act mentioned on this site.)
Morrissey: Years of Refusal
Marissa Nadler: Little Hells
U2: No Line on the Horizon (Bleh...)
Mirah: (a)spera
Tim Hecker: An Imaginary Country
Bonnie 'Prince' Billy: Beware
The Decemberists: The Hazards of Love
MSTRKRFT: Fist of God (I'm really hoping this second album will be 1000 times better than their debut.)
The Thermals: Now We Can See
Tortoise: untitled ATM
