This movie looks amazing. I've always wanted to see a war movie made from Hitler's point of view, and here it is. Check out the trailer. I think it looks really really good, and so far it has a metascore of 83. I know it got released in only a few places on Feburary 18, and its not playing anywhere near me yet. Has anyone seen it yet? I'd really like to hear what you thought.

I haven't seen it but it's playing in my area now. I WILL be seeing it for sure because besides the subject matter, it stars the great Bruno Ganz, who's one of the greatest living European actors. I'll probably wait until it comes to DVD though.

This is a bit tangential, but German director Michael Verhoeven made the satiric The Nasty Girl in 1990 about a young woman who writes an essay called "My Hometown During the Third Reich", which causes all hell to break loose. I highly recommend that as a look at how Germans felt about what happened during the war, as well as for the film's extreme stylization.

Well, I finally saw it, and it was everything I was expecting. The acting was superb. Ganz really brought depth to his role by showing that even though he may have been evil, sick, and crazy, underneath it all, Hitler was still human.

The set creation and special f/x were perfect and completely believable and realistic, as was the sound.

I must caution that Downfall one of the (perhaps the single most) realistically intense and disturbing films I've seen. But the powerful realism only adds to the profoundness of the film.

The one problem (as with many movies these days), was that I felt that it was a little too long, but it is still absolutely worth seeing.

The movie was decent. Basically a slow motion trainwreck/meltdown that drags on for way too long. We've read and seen this story before. The best part about the whole affair was Bruno Ganz, but he's always good. There's also some nice cinematography and set design.

Now there was a picture. Welles was wrong - the Swiss didn't just invent the cuckoo clock, they invented Ganz as well, and he stormed his way through this in a way no Hollywood "star" ever could. Hitler as a human being, full of anguish, stress, and claustrophic panic. What a hugely valuable film this was...

I found this film riveting and it was as good as advertised. As good as Ganz was in portraying Hitler -- and he was very, very good -- I thought the actor that played Goebbels was scary, scary, scary. Goebbels was even nuttier than Hitler, as hard as that can be to believe. Not only did Goebbels commit suicide, but so did his wife and they killed the kids in the bunker.
