I noticed that Mark made a thread about Fassbinder but we didn't have a Czech New Wave (or oddly enough, french) thread.

Well, what are some of your favorites?
Althoughh I can't stand feminism, I love love love Vera Chytilova's Sedmikrasky. Even with all the cutting and eating of phallic objects, it's a masterpiece. It's hilarious, creative, and totally engaging. Although many critics nowadays consider it dated, this youngin' still considers it plenty applicable to modern times and still sees it standing up to many modern comedies (the intelligent ones, no use brining up "the others").

I'd like to add Jakubisko's Birds, Orphans, and Fools to great Czech New Wave cinema. Up next are the other two in Jakubisko's tilogy and Truffaut's Jules and Jim.
