:P Really? It was just all a joke... personally, I found Dead or Alive quite boring.

Well, being an European myself, I congratulate forum member Wong828 (why don't you people submit real names or ones not sounding as if you've just showed up from Mars?) for his (her) exhaustive list (though one or two other people also came up with interesting stuff).

Wong, are you from Japan, Korea, Malasia, etc.?

try:
Fassbinder's QUERELLE (1982)
Bertolucci's THE SPIDER'S STRATAGEM (1970) and THE TRAGEDY OF A RIDICULOUS MAN (1981)
Buñuel's VIRIDIANA (1961)THIS STRANGE PASSION (1953) and THE EXTERMINATING ANGEL (1962)
Manoel de Oliveira's MY CASE (1986)
Alain Resnais' MÉLO (1986)
Rohmer's CLAIRE'S KNEE (1970) A SUMMER'S TALE (1996) and A WINTER'S TALE (1992)
Kieslowski's DECALOGUE series (1989)
Wim Wenders' KINGS OF THE ROAD (1976) and ALICE IN THE CITIES (1974)
Kurosawa's DREAMS (1990) and SANJURO (1962)

This is just to name director's from your list.

Try to get your hands on Lisbon Cultural Capital of Europe: 1994's List of the 100 (+ 78) best European movies ever.

In my opinion, when it comes film/sequel combos, Jean De Florette and Manon Des Sources rank among the best pair of films ever made. These films are exceptionally well-made, well-acted, and well-directed. Truly among of the best films in their genre. It's too bad they're out-of-print on DVD.

Well Yous Truly, that's a fine-looking list you've got there. Make sure that you update it as you view more. Have you seen any other Kurosawa, Bergman, Fellini, Bunuel or Almodovar?
I certainly recommend Seven Samurai, The Seventh Seal, La Dolce Vita, Belle de Jour and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, at least for starters. Welcome to the site! Smiler

It's nice to see Svankmajer made someone's list! Although I'm not sure I'd put Little Otik (Otesánek) on my top 10 list of favorite films, Jan Svankmajer definitely makes the list of top 10 favorite directors/animators.
I've been an old Gilliam fan for years, and finally came across Svankmajer. Wow! I highly recommend watching his shorts and feature-lengths if you haven't already.

Some amazing films mentioned so far. This is a tough one. But, in no particular order some of my faves are:
Eyes Without a Face, Jules and Jim, Atanarjuat, Lulumba, The Celebration, City of God, Throne of Blood, L'Avventura, Sunless, Ichi the Killer, Amores Perros.
Anytime I watch any of these films I get goosebumps.

I don't have the time nor inclination to list all my favorites or a true best of list, so these 11 are the ones that came to me first.

1. La Dolce Vita
2. Farewell My Concubine
3. Belle de Jour
4. 8 1/2
5. Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...and Spring
6. Contempt
7. Stray Dog
8. Seventh Seal
9. The Bicycle Thief
10. Day for Night
11. Andrei Rublev

I know there are great films and directors I have left off, but like I said, those 11 came quickly.

It's been emotional.
