One of the best musicals to grace the screen in a LOOOOONG time. Simply put: I LOVED Hedwig and am wondering if tehre are any Wig Heds here on the boards?
Well, I don't know if I qualify as a "Wig Hed", but the "Angry Inch" did do it for me. The music, energy, story, acting and theme are all superior to "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." (No retributions please.) I remember when this was reviewed on Ebert and Roeper. Ebert gave it a thumb up, but Doper's was down because "the music was too mainstream"(?!?) I wonder what the hell he listens to!
"Naked Woman, Naked Man Where did you get that nice sun tan?"

Eccentro, I hope you had the chance to see the live show, which hit the stages a couple of years before the film came out. The energy was so unbelievable that I saw it three friday night in a row at the Henry Fonda Theatre in L.A. The film was great, but the live show was incredible. It was literally like seeing a rock show with some talking/acting between the songs. I'm a HUGE Wig Head....

Yeah Im trying to persuade my Dad to bring the show over here in Auburn's Theatre Program but even if he does it wont be the same without the brilliance of actors like John Cameron Mitchell playing Hedwig.

Believe it or not, I saw it with somebody else playing the lead (not JCM), and he was outstanding -- I'd even venture to say better. He vamped it up a bit more than JCM, who is a little understated. Trust me, others can play that role with success.... See it.

Yeah but that person was an actor the kids here at AU are quite the opposite, but I shall still try. Also, we just recently performed an original play callled "Freakspiel" that was not only one of the raunchiest plays I've ever read it was also one of the funniest. Unfortunately, in my conservative redneck town the whole thing didnt go over very well. Mothers complained (for their dumbasses brought their kids because it featured puppets) and students rebelled so Auburn might have to wait a while for Hedwig and his one-inch lump of flesh.
Hedwig is now one of my favorite movies. As well as The Rocky Horror Picture Show. In a way I find Hedwig and the Angry Inch more realistic. I can't even choose a favorite song because I love them all. I don't see much merchandise that you could purchase on the internet. In my opinion, the perfect shirt for Hedwig would be: Remeber the part in the movie where Hedwig is singing in the deli shop and throws a rag with some of her make-up on it; yeah...They should put that on a shirt!! Heck Yes!! That would be Awesome...
For people who haven't seen this movie...go out and see it.
I liked it, but at first I found it difficult to watch. I can't say its one I would watch with my homophobic friends though, I'm sure they wouldn't understand its entertaining values. I really liked it, and am thinking about buying it. You know its cult if there is a term for the fans; Wig head. haha
