[POSSIBLE SPOILER]

Does the introductory scene in Garden State indicate the main character wdies in a plane crash at the end?

Ummm....yeah. Thank you for totally ruining the movie for all us who have NOT seen "Garden State" yet. It'd be nice if you had a spoiler warning or something like that!

Sorry about that, Eccentro. I've not seen the film, so I don't know if that was a spoiler, but it sure seems like it could be. I wish I had caught it sooner.

NABRAJJ, please read the General Forum Guidelines and Code of Conduct, especially number 9 regarding the posting of possible spoilers. If you have any questions, you may address them in a private message to me.

Now Playing: NBC's coverage of the Women's Olympic Marathon...one for the ages

Nah...it wasn't really much of a spoiler...I saw the film last Friday.

I'd say it wasn't much of a film either, but I digress.

But Linn Tate was smart to "hide" the text of course.

That's one of the reasons why I rarely look at any comments made about a movie (on MetaCritic or otherwise) until I've seen the movie for myself.

Thanks for the follow-up, asc85. I appreciate it. Better safe than sorry. If you can't be good, be careful. Buy low, sell high. Ask not...

I'll stop.

Now Playing: Olympic coverage on NBC...the men's 100M is coming up...ho hum...how about that marathon today?!!

No, I actually think it was just a metaphor for the way his life was going and his state of mind. As you probably noticed, there is a very similar scene at the end in which he behaves differently.

Agree with D. Trenkner's analysis.

I thought Garden state was good. It had excellent characterization and acting.

Garden State is a good film, maybe even a great one for those film students who really enjoyed the Graduate. My main issue with it was that it seemed too hung up on itself to let its own naturally charm tell the story on its own. Instead, we were left with elongated conversations that seemed unecessary, (near the end, Andrew's conversation with the dad), or counter productive, (when Mark comments after giving back the jewelry he had stolen from Andrew's mother). In both instances, the film would have done better to let the well-selected soundtrack do all the talking, or, even better, allow for simple contemplative silence.
