This seemed to be the best place to put this. This film has a wonderful script full of interesting, complex characters that anybody who wasn't "born" in a cabbage patch could understand. The acting is phenomenal, especially Mark Ruffalo, Rory Culkin and Laura Linney. This film reminds me of the late60s/early 70s, when independent flicks like "Easy Rider", "Joe" and "Five Easy Pieces" were getting made "under the radar" but still became phenomena. The writer/director, Kenneth Lonergan, did write "Analyze This", so you knew he could write humorous dialogue and situations, but who would have thought he could dig so deep? I especially love the line that the director says, while playing Linney's priest, when she asks him about adultery/ fornication. Did anyone else relate to this movie so strongly or have some opinions on good, solid "independent" films?

Definitely one of my favorite movies. Actually saw it with my sister & we both felt really strongly about it and related to the characters. In fact, she got me the DVD for my b-day a couple of years ago. I personally think it's Ruffalo's best role yet. The interplay between Laura Linney & Matthew Brodderick is awesome, as well.
I think you'll agree with me that this a "family" flick, even though it's R-rated. You and your sister relating through this movie proves that. It should also strike a chord with single mothers who have kids, any of their kids, anybody who has a sister or brother, and sperm donors who are in denial about their responsibilities. Whew, that sounds pretty heavy for a movie which is so entertaining.

Thanks, 8th, for responding. This is one of the great films of the 2000s. At least the ones which are charscter-and-dialogue-driven! Great underseen (and underrated) movie!
