Because of sites like MetaCritic(!), I thankfully avoid most of the really bad films that are released.

Unfortunately, I was invited to a Sneak Preview of an eagerly anticipated movie. The movie? None other than "Evening." I could not believe how bad it was.

So my "Worst" list is up to four, and it's

1. Evening
2. 28 Weeks Later
3. Live Free or Die Hard
4. Waitress

I didn't see 28 WEEKS LATER, but as for the other three films mentioned here, I wouldn't place any of them on my Worst Film list. LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD wouldn't be on my Best Film list, but I enjoyed the typical and sometimes creative way Bruce Willis does this thing. Worst Movie implies for me that the film was boring, the acting was poor, the script was difficult to follow, the cinematography was questionable, special effects obvious...really LIVE FREE seemed to pass all the usual tests for a decent, if not spectacular film.

As for EVENING and WAITRESS both were pretty good films and each made my honor list of good films. While I found EVENING to have some editing and plot lapses, the authenticity and focus on the death and dying theme was absorbing and well done. The almost delirium atmosphere in places so well captured actual experiences of death and dying. WAITRESS was a nice blend of comedy drama with brilliant humor and some cute observations using narrative voice-over.

Ok -- it's not the worst film I've seen this year, but I was incredibly disappointed by "Lars and the Real Girl." There was a special screening of it here in town tonight.

All of the humor was based around the "shocking" presence of a blow-up doll, which frankly, wasn't that shocking -- until the movie made it so by becoming spectacularly far-fetched... I'm quickly tiring of the "quirky independent comedy" where each character embodies a particular idiosyncratic mannerism, only so that each is guaranteed his or her own "moment" at some point during the film (a la "Little Miss Sunshine"). Blech.

All in all, it felt like a sitcom that had well overstayed its welcome. So sad -- I really wanted to like this one.

Halloween

Had serious forebodings that this would be 'bad'
without any hope for a pleasant surprise. It proved to be something just short of a snuff film.

I am utterly shocked that this crap didn't earn an NC-17 rating based on its first 25 minutes alone.

None of these compare to the atrocity known as "Dragon Wars"! Awful plot, awful acting, barely any dragon-on-dragon action. I'm glad I didn't pay to see it!

"I can't live the buttoned down life like all of you! I want it all: the terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles! Sure, I might offend a few of the blue-noses with my cocky stride and musky odor - oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called 'City Fathers' who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about what's to be done with this Monkey_Boy?!"

I was initially ashamed to admit I saw Mr. Woodcock, but with all this talk of Dragon Wars what the heck, I'll throw that out there.

Probably won't make any friends with this one, but I also did not like Death Proof at all...but I would stop short of saying worst. So there that is.

There were a few but I would probably put 300 on the top of the list of worst movies this year.

Music and Lyrics.

But mind you, I don't see a lot of bad movies.

But Music and Lyrics.

While I agree with you that there aren't "a lot" of bad movies out this year 2007, especially compared to past years, I have to say that I loved MUSIC AND LYRICS and it may hold out to be among my top ten movies of the year (though I think that latest batch of movies coming out will change that). I am speculating that HUGH GRANT and/or DREW BARRYMORE aren't your favorite actor and/or actress. I found that humor and comedy some of the smartest of the year (instead of the dumb, crude humor that usually gets promoted) and the storyline was solid and compelling going over the development of a musical number.

The worst movies I've seen this year are 300, Shoot 'Em Up, Transformers, and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Shooter was bad as well. Otherwise, I've been content or ecstatic with the quality of the movies I've seen thus far.

Live Free or Die Hard was ridiculous. I like Bruce Willis, but his character would have been killed about 20 times in real like. I just couldn't suspend my disbelief enough.

Yeah, I saw Live Free or Die Hard this weekend, and the action scenes had no basis in reality whatsoever. The action scenes in Transformers weren't that ridiculous, and that movie featured giant robots.

I find it curious that both 300 and BEOWULF ended up on your list here. There was a lot of special effects/animated features used as well even TRANSFORMERS. While I won't go so far as to say that these were the worst films of 2007, I found some problems with them, particularly 300 and BEOWULF. I was wondering what you found so awful about them.

Well all three movies had no sense of plot development and mediocre storytelling. Although Transformers wasn't as bad as the other two, I think I ended up hating it because I was forced to see it like 4-5 times with family, friends, etc. Also Transformers was just too long: after sering it for the second time I kind of realized they could have cut out a lot of stuff, and it wouldn't have affected the vague plot much anyway. Beowulf had some nice special effects, but it fails on every other category. The attempts at comic relief were laughable and useless throughout the movie. 300 had some horrendous acting besides its lackluster plot, and it was historically inaccurate. And if you
are trying to insinuate that I dislike all movie s with great visual effects or CGI well I don't. I though spider-man 3 was decent and Ratatouille
was one of my favorite movies of the year.

Hm...I thought that both 300 and BEOWULF had pretty straightforward storytelling and plot developments. I was able to pretty well follow along from the early, middle, and end chapters. I don't see where there isn't a story in either of these movies. The problem I had with BEOWULF is that there seemed to a be huge gap in the story between when BEOWULF obtains his ultimate wish and the next time the audience sees him. There was a lot of important character development that went missing there. With 300, I didn't judge the movie of historical accuracy - I'm getting used to the "inspired by" label being put of movies nowadays. I also only saw each of these movies only once, so I'm wondering if you had changes in opinion as the number of times that you saw each movie increased.

I can understand why you (and EG75) didn't like it, but I have much respect for the stunt work. I think what they did was a lot more difficult/skilled than someone playing around with CGI. I was constantly wowed by the stunts, even in their ridiculous unbelievability, I found them to look pretty sweet.

Sure it was over the top, but at least it was all the way over the top. I feel like they were thinking "okay, this is getting pretty ridiculous, let's just make it as big and as much bang for the buck as we can".

For this reason, I thought it was semi-great. I didn't go in there for a realistic action-thriller. I was ready for the sheer ridiculousness.

So far, the worst movie I’ve seen this year was Spiderman 3, I just didn’t like it, I’m not going to get into my reasons why because for those exact same reasons there will probably be people who loved it :P

I haven’t seen Live Free or Die Hard yet, but I love over the top and unbelievable stunts, especially if they’re garnished with a bit of humour, plus I can’t remember the last film with Bruce Willis that I didn’t really enjoy.

You don't make it very easy to reply to your messages. You say so little in regards to your opinion. It's almost too easy.
