I was watching E!'s 101 Best Kept Hollywood Secrets the other night (yes, I have no shame). In the show they mentioned a critic, David Manning, who loved everything he saw from Hollow Man to A Knight's Tale to -gasp- The Animal. This guy sounds no different than the infamous Earl Dittman except for one thing. Dave Manning isnt real. He was created by Sony to praise the bottom tier of Sony's films.
i, too, watched the E! special and saw the Dave manning installment. he is not actually a big secret to me because i remember that when a knight's rale came out he said that it was a refreshing movie from such movies as Moulin Rouge or something like that and it got me so mad because i absolutley loved Moulin Rouge. so i researched Manning and found a story that he had been discovered a fraud so i guess he was discovered before The Animal but i don't understand how he lived till then. i also don't remeber anything good about the animal.

Manning was a fictional creation. I don't want to say much more than that for fear of litigation, but Metacritic was borne out of the era of the movie advertisement which want something like this: "FREDDY GOT FINGERED: ONE OF THE YEAR'S 10 BEST!" - mitch davis, southwest park review. Mitch who??? The studios were citing critics and publications that nobody had ever heard of. The ultimate in this kind of practice was David Manning. Do a little more research and you'll get the full story. Put "Sony" in your seach query.
So Metacritic, unlike our competitors in the review complitation game, was committed to using only critics and publications with long-established reputations... Household names. We're not going to carry every tom, tick, and harry that has a movie website or a film newsletter.
Death to Videodrome... long live the new flesh!
