I've kind of followed him since he was a local critic here in L.A. He was at New York Magazine for a long time and seems to have been replaced by Ken Tucker around Nov 1 of last year. Does anybody know if he was fired, quit, etc.? He could also be in the running for most negative/smug critic as well, but nevertheless his opinions are often interesting, and since he so rarely likes a film, I take note when he does. Thanks.
I just met Peter Rainer at the Palm Beach Int'l Film Festival. He is currently associated with NPR and New York magazine. I recommend "Googling" him for recent critiques. Good luck!

The American Museum of the Moving Image does a yearly series where they invite members of the New York Film Critics Circle to select a film and then show up and introduce the film. Rainer was there Saturday to introduce his choice HAMSUN.
Rainer is now writing for "The Christian Science Monitor" and also is writing on-line for Bloomberg News.
I don't know why Rainer is no longer with "New York Magazine," but that magazine recently changed ownership and also cashiered its long-time theatre critic, the acerbic John Simon, who is also now writing for the Bloomberg web site.
