Hi, I'm new and I didn't see a topic like this one... so I thought I'd make one! I'll suggest a few bands:

Modest Mouse - You all have probably heard of them, but if you haven't HEARD them, I suggest you pick up The Moon And Antarctica, as it is in my opinion one of the best albums released during my lifetime.

Bright Eyes - I'm also sure everyone has heard of Bright Eyes and my name is a dead giveaway that I am a fan, but I can't not recommend him.

A Jovian Night - This band I think less people will have heard of. They have a free concept album on their website ( http://www.ajoviannight.com )... it's about a meteor hitting Earth. The singer is like a less talented version of the above two singers and the recordings are rather lo-fi, but this band has potential and it's free.

The Grass ( http://www.thegrass.ca )- A Canadian band with a really folky feel. Apparently they put on a really good show live, and they have quite interesting guitar work. They have some videos on their page, and on their newmusiccanada.com page there are some tracks. They've also just completed an album.

I guess it's easy to figure out what type of music I listen to, haha. Anyway, I hope other people have some recommendations!

I love making suggestions. I've been listening to a lot of Post-Rock/Ambient and Electronic stuff recently, so...

1. Mile North- A guitar and synth duo, criminally underrated, calm and repetitive melodic lines, you can tell that they use a lot of pedals

2. LOSCIl- Ambient-Electronic music from Canada, check out his album The Triple Point. He gets a really unique hypnotic (he plays with the idea of 'liquid' movement) sound out of his electronics

3. Bohren Und Der Club Of Gore- This is a band you may have heard on Mike Patton's Ipecac label. They play really subdued instrumental "jazz-like" music. The hook is in the mellotron they use. Check out their 2004 Ipecac release Black Earth or their 2005 release Geisterfaust, for some moody, slow, melodic music.

Well, I hope someone tries out some of my suggestions, like I said a lot of this stuff is closely related to ambient music, so make sure you play these records LOUD and at the appropriate time in the day (In the background if your not doing anything particularly taxing, or if your just deciding to chill out).
