lately i have been watching a lot of older movies that i loved and started to recognize more and more of the songs since i have started listening to this genre intensely.

movies such as vanilla sky, friday night lights, and gardenstate.

almost famous and donnie darko have amazing soundtracks even they they wouldnt be considered "indie"

i know theres a thread like this in movies, but im more intrested in what the people in the forum think. considering we all like(for the most part) the same music.

what are some other good soundtracks or say songs in movies that other people may have missed.

Don't give up on them. They're loved for damn good reason. Put on a good pair of headphones and start up Loveless. Your ears will thank you. Cool

Although my wife says it makes her feel like she's going insane and refuses to hear it.

OK, I am trying to get into Loveless, I really am. Some songs are just too drawn out and repetitive for me like the end of "Sometimes" and a few others. I will continue to give it plenty of re-listens though.

Loveless is my favorite album of all time, but it took me forever to "get" it. It seemed drawn-out at first, and quite dated for some reason, so I understand your aprehension. But give it time, and it will be very rewarding!

It might help if you listen to it loudly, because the depth of the music seems to come through a bit clearer when you listen to that album at a high volume.

I think Loveless is overrated too, if it's any consolation. I've owned it for about 10 years, and I can probably count the number of times I've had the urge to listen to it on one hand.

Trust me benjiru I have tried that. I dont know when but last night my neighbors took off late to some party (live in an apartment complex) so I blasted the dang thing. It wasn't worth it, it only makes the really repetitive stuff even more annoying and there is a ton of repetition here. But...

This is huge consolation because at least I am not the only one who can't see/hear what is so great about it. Everyone loves this album so much but I just don't quite get it. I will give it some more listens, including a couple with headphones and if still nothing I will proclaim that your ears must not be working if you like this. Cool After that I will go blast The Twilight Sad album, which if you haven't heard you must.

***By the way***
If you haven't seen Grindhouse you must stop whatever you are doing and go watch it now!

I don't quite get My Bloody Valentine, but whatever. It's definitely easier to listen to than Person Pitch.

(Oh, and just so people don't think I'm trying to stir up shit here, I'll say that Person Pitch, Animal Collective, et al, are a direct descendent of MBV; the attempt to float a record on noise and ambience rather than recognizable song structures and lyrics.)

Aren't there any girls out their who like good music? I need to and want to meet them. My favorite bands are Overkill River, The Nife, Songs:Ohio, and Nuetral Milk Hotel. Please let me know if your into indy music and like to go to show's and drink beer's and makeout.

I have to disagree here. Nearly every song on Loveless has a pretty standard verse/chorus/verse/chorus structure. It definitely has ambience, but that doesn't mean the record is some kind of amorphous soup.

Secondly, I don't understand the Person Pitch or Animal Collective comparisons here. Person Pitch is basically a pop record, there really isn't much to "challenge" a listener. Loveless is also pop-influenced but it contains a lot of heavy obscuring of melody via distortion and pitch bending. I think both are pretty accessible, but Person Pitch isn't clouded over by an omnipresent feedback or guitar fuzz.

I will agree with you that Animal Collective tend to shy away from traditional song structures in favor of a more free form compositional style, but as for their link to MBV...they really are a different type of group entirely.

I'll agree with the last comment regarding Panda Bear and My Bloody Valentine using traditional song structure, but I believe the earlier point is that the actual recording and presentation are anything but traditional. They may not be entirely original, but that doesn't mean they are therefore traditional.

It's also interesting, at least to me, that two people can have two diametrically opposed opinions and yet they can both be correct. I don't believe that being correct is as important as understanding yourself and why you believe or feel the way you do, but probably the only better thing than that is trying to understand somebody else's point without giving up your own. Cool

I disagree with you. Although I don't really like Person Pitch at all, I do find it to be a challenging listen. I imagine that someone probably listened to this one at least fifteen times before realizing that he/she loved it. For me, I didn't enjoy it, but it was very challenging in so many ways. It kept me wanting to go back to it, to try again and again to like it. I figured, "Hey I don't really dig this," but later on I wanted to hear it again. There were things I liked about it: some of the obscure sounds, some catchy hooks, some interesting voice layering that I wanted to get back into. It wasn't until a few days ago that I didn't have that urge to hear it and I figured to myself, "Well, at least I gave it a good, fair shot." Both albums are challenging and both are tough listens.
