well, despite you not liking MCR (which i dont either), perhaps they are doing it for exposure. im sure some mcr fans would enjoy muse, even tho they are mcr fans. i mean cmon, its muse, idk how you cant like them.

that or they are doin it for the dough, which i dont see a problem with.

or perhaps they're label is making them

i hope they headline their own soon though

Maybe it's because both bands are ridiculously indulgent.

Probably.

I'd say that's probably one reason, actually. Neither band is very good at subtlety or restraint, so their sounds actually end up being closer then most Muse fans would like to admit. In fact, I might go as far as calling Muse the English My Chemical Romance.

Yeah, that too.

Muse is bombastic as hell, but doesn't quite give me the "I WANT ATTENTIONNNNNNN" vibe that "My Chem" does.

Muse sounds nothing like MCR...British, or otherwise.

I know I'm not going to get any Muse fans to agree with me, but I see a lot of the same things in these two bands. Both have that same in-your-face vocal style. Both have the same bombastic tendencies in their music. I'm not necessarily saying the sound the same, but I still maintain that they're closer then some people might want to admit.

It's like having Radiohead open up for Good Charlotte. What a disgrace. MCR are a bunch of wankers.

Hmm, another comparison of Muse to Radiohead.

They are a total rip-off of the Bends era.

MCR may suck, but they aren't as bad as many other "emo" bands. At least they're original, and not rip-offs like Muse. Muse makes me laugh.

My main criticism of Muse doesn't really have to do with the Radiohead comparisons, although I can understand the vocals are similar in both bands. Muse just take themselves way too seriously. They have none of Radiohead's more interesting artistic goals and instead feel content to write laughably over-the-top "epic" rock songs. Their latest attempt at some kind of political allegory with "Black Holes And Revelations" (the title tells you everything wrong with the band), was suitably juvenile and came way too late to be considered a unique perspective.

I think it's funny how Muse fans get so upset about the indie music world deriding them as lame, accusing everyone who doesn't like Muse of having their thinking done for them. Then, they still find it acceptable to bash MCR for reasons just as shallow as the indie music world's critcism of Muse.

Or am I presenting a straw man?

I think it's as simple as this: MCR has more fans in America than Muse does. Muse will still undoubtedly sell additional tickets to the bill. Therfore, Muse opens for MCR, thus selling out reasonably large venues.

If it doesn't offend Muse to open for MCR, then it probably shouldn't offend you.

why all the hate for MCR? yes, people that post on this borad is going to favor muse, but let's remember that MCR's last album was a lot better recieved by critics than Muse's album. (79 for MRC vs 75 for muse with a 4.2 from pitchfork)

where is thomyorkeisgod in all of this discussion. it seems rather blasphemous that a person who worships thom yorke and radiohead is talking about muse in a positive light.

for the record, though, radiohead is my favorite band and i like muse, sort of. their lyrics are lame but sometimes i need all that bombastic glam rcok muse does so well.

Um, believing that aliens in flying saucers are actually our world leaders in disguise is a unique perspective, I'd say. Wink

Muse is fun, melodramatic glam rock that I find enjoyable as hell to listen to. And My Chem, I don't really listen to them but I'm sure they're really fun, too. I like Muse a little better than MCR, so I would rather they headline, but that's not what most American audiences want.

Muse will never really enter the same realm as Radiohead, but why hold that against them? They're a whole lot of fun. When did we stop using music to have fun?
