Despite my slacker status, I've been following the forums for a little while, and have noticed that one album has seemingly slipped through the cracks here at the forums, now I'm not sure if it's indy or not, but this album is Has Beenby William Shatner. Now I am by no means an expert on My. Shatner, I've not seen more than a couple episodes of his programs, so take my opinion for what its worth... I've felt Shatner has been almost a laughingstock of late, his return to fame has been quite a self-effacing venture I think. Because of this, I couldn't help but laugh when I heard he was releasing an album, and made a point to hear it for comic value. After seeing a performance on The Tonight Show, I was blown away, as I hadn't listened to the album yet, and the next day I went to the local record store and tested it out. Well, surprisingly I ended up purchasing the album, and not for laughs! I'm not going to call this a great album by any means, but just the fact that it's actually halfway decent really got me, and I've found myself coming back to it from time to time, especially for the song, "Together." Has anyone else picked this up? I've found it to be a rather guilty pleasure!

Check out this thread, benjiru. There's quite a bit of chatter about the album. philosopherEric is a fan.

I fear that despite my promise to check it out, I haven't done so yet. Thanks for the reminder.

It's a very good record. Not a jokey one, like you'd expect. The music, courtesy of Ben Folds, is fantastic and Shatner chats his way through the songs like, well, only he can. It's a really listenable record. The cover of "Common People" is excellent.

I'll give this one another thumbs up. I really couldn't believe it was anything more than a joke when I was first tempted to listen to 'Common People' at a record store. Sure enough though, I was back shortly to buy the record. It isn't something I listen to often, but when I do it is always a good listen.

Count me as a fan too. I have converted many a skeptic by way of "Common People". I then hit 'em with "You'll Have Time" and I they're hooked. Here's hoping to a follow-up album!
