Wow, considering my love for this album and the fact that I can't remember a time since I first discovered it when I went a long while w/o listening to it, I'm surprised I forgot this.

Good call.

I agree with Bonnie "Prince" Billy, or really, anything by Will Oldham. Also:
Ben Kweller- Sha Sha
Rocky Votolato- Makers
Pedro the Lion- Achilles Heel
Sufjan Stevens- Illinois

I just recommended it on another thread, but I'll add "All Hail West Texas" by the Mountain Goats here. Also, Nick Drake's "Pink Moon" can never be mentioned enough.

I was just going to write Pink Moon. It's the perfect album.

Others:

Gorky's Zygotic Mynnci - Spanish Dance Troupe
Iron & Wine - Our Endless Numbered Days
American Music Club - California (mainly acoustic).
Sufjan Stevens - Seven Swans (his best album by far...surely).

If you want some older, (dare I say it?) classic, acoustic-indie, give these a try:

In addition to Nick Drake's PM, you can't go wrong with any of his albums-- pick up the box set.

In addition to the Violent Femmes, self-titled album, their sophomore release, Hallowed Ground is an under-appreciated classic.

The Feelies, The Good Earth

The first three Uncle Tupelo Albums.

House of Freaks, Tantilla

The Alarm, Declaration or Strength

The Waterboys, Fisherman's Blues

The Posies, Failure

The Sundays, Reading, Writing and Arithmetic

Nirvana, MTV Unplugged

Good call on the Nirvana unplugged album. Everybody loves that one.

Come to think of it, wouldn't the Posies' Dear 23 count, even with the epic finale?

The Feelies are one of my fave bands ever, but I just find it hard to describe any of their albums as acoustic-based (even if this has the most). Even so, awesome album. Cool

EDIT- I just thought of the Woodentops' Giant.

I just popped it in, and there are acoustic guitars all over the place.

I thought i would see more mentions for the Mountain Goats here. Id go for The Sunset Tree, class album which although not completely acoustic is certainly acoustic based.

I forgot to mention Swell the other day. Any of their first three albums (Swell, . . . Well? and 41).

Would Devendra Banhart be indie, folk-indie, or just folk? Devendra is definitely acoustic-based, and Cripple Crow is really good.

He qualifies in this thread, but I consider him more wacko, although I liked Rejoicing in the Hands.
