I think I've mentioned this song in this thread before, but I can't remember. "Ghost" was the first track I heard from the album, and generally I don't like songs that dabble in "experimental" (I'm a pop guy, plain and simple). That's why I don't like latter-era Radiohead, and I'm sure if the whole album was similar to it, I would hate it. Thankfully, it is not, and for some reason I still enjoy its eerie-ness breaking up all the pop-goodness.

And then they never do anything like it again. And after the credits roll you are like, "Dude, what was up with that weird scene in the beginning? Did you notice how everyone just pretended it never happened for the rest of the movie?" And then you watch the movie again and that scene comes on and you know it's awesome, but it just doesn't fit. And then one day you watch the movie and you fast forward past that one scene and suddenly the movie seems a lot better.

That's how I feel.

totally agree.
you r in my mind.
when i was hearin the first three tracks (Don't Make Me A Target,The Ghost Of You Lingers,You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb) i thought that i was hearing the album of the year!
track 4 (Don't You Evah)is just a nice song.
then came track 5 (Rhythm & Soul)my third favourite track of the album n ...

...sometimes when i m hearing an album for the first time n the first songs are really great/amazing i feel that my heart is gonna break n i m wondering if the next part of the album will be so good as the first.its a the moment that i m thinkin to push stop cause i dont want to feel any dissapointment.its a weird feeling...

maybe i should do the same with that album cause ...
after track five…well,I thought that I was hearing another album.
Good songs but I don’t like that “easy pop”feeling…only My Little Japanese Cigarette C makes the difference…

It could be almost my album of the year.
now it’s a new entry in my top 10

I was a bit underwhelmed at first, but after about three listens the album revealed itself as amazing, far better to my ears than Gimme Fiction.

I really like Finer Feelings at the moment. Is it just me or is there something about the track that sounds a bit like Junior Boys?

I just gave Finer Feelings another spin. I can hear a Junior Boys connection. It's very "lesiure suit disco floor".

I also agree that it is much better than Gimme Fiction, but I really felt Fiction was lacking in several areas.

'Don't Make Me a Target' is an awesome song, but I have a hard time getting passed the fact that the first time I heard it I drove past the little mall I used to go to as a kid and discovered it was getting tore down and being replaced by a Target store. So now I can't listen to the song without thinking it's being sung from the perspective of an old shopping mall.

Man, I don't understand all the slagging on Gimme Fiction! That sucker was an indie-rock masterpiece in my book. More catchy songs than anything Spoon has ever done, but it still retains that somewhat spooky, atmospheric sound on several songs, especially "Was It You?" my favorite Spoon song.

Gimme Fiction was what got me started on Spoon, so I'll probably always love it.

I agree with you bro. I hadn't played that album in a while and a while back, I just grabbed it and my girlfriend and I played it in the car while we were driving across town and I thought, "Wow, this is full of awesome songs." Top to bottom, Gimme Fiction is a strong album and I think I do like it more than Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga.

After living with Ga^5 for several months, I think it probably is the weakest Spoon album since Telephono. However, it's a testament to how good Spoon is that it'll probably still land in my top 5 at the end of the year.

i bought Gimme Fiction n Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga the same week.i have to say that Gimme Fiction as a whole is a better album but from the other hand in Ga^5 Spoon wrote some of their best tunes n that gives the album extra points n make it so special to me.

Insert Gimme Fiction instead of Ga^5 and that is exactly how I felt a couple years ago. I think G5 is going to sit comfortably behind SoS and GCT in my Spoon Rankings.

Dont' get me wrong, I love Gimme Fiction. But It's more like a greatest hits album than an actual album. They are great songs, but it doesn't really fit together right.

Really? I think it fits very well. Much better than Ga^5. The only song that sounds a little out of place is to me is Sister Jack.

You guys are starting to pull this thread apart. I like Gimme Fiction better, but Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga (think of it as an album about quintuplets) is good enough for my Top 20 somewhere.

You have to admit. They are two completely different styles of album. Spoon definitely has their own voice, but they don't just make the same song or album over and over. They expand within their own body.

Barring an overwhelmingly excellent release from Radiohead (and I'm not ruling that out) Spoon will be in my top 5 as well.

I think we were talking about how some people either don't like or don't think that "The Ghost of You Lingers" fits. I was thinking about it--besides the fact that I love that song and the way it sounds and fits on Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga--that there is another song similar to it in Spoon's great catalog.

That song isn't the first one where they try to use some intersting techniques: sounds that appear out of nowhere, distortion, etc. Check out "Paper Tiger" off of Kill the Moonlight. That is also a song that has some weird noise flashes throughtout and very minimalist style but sounds awesomely great and fits into that album nicely as well.

I love 'Paper Tiger'. That's a really good connection. I really think 'The Ghost of You Lingers' would have fit much better on Kill The Moonlight, though. Imagine if it had come after 'Small Stakes' rather than 'Don't Make Me A Target'. But I'm not going to continue to argue the point for fear of someone accidentally thinking Spoon isn't one of my favorite bands of all time.

Gimme Fiction is one of the best indie albums of this year. They have an extraordinary sound and you just can't get the songs out of your head.

To be, or not to be, that's the question.

I rarely hear this song mentioned (when people mention the album), but it is my co-favorite song with The Underdog. My favorite part is near the end when he sings "Tune in Tokyo"...

Great song, great album.
