Really? I've listened to the album several times, and I have to say I think "Don't You Evah" is probably the dullest track on the album.

That's my favorite by a landslide. The new one is shaping up to be pretty sweet, and I actually think "Ghost of you lingers" is one of the better tracks. The only one I usually skip over is "Eddie's Ragga"...a little boring.

hmm - I really dig Eddie's Raga. But the reason I'm posting is that I wanted to chime in for Girls can Tell. I've only listened to GA GA GA GA ga 5 times or so, but I'm pretty sure that GCT's crown has not been usurped. It is tough for me to compare A Series of Sneaks to pretty much any other Spoon album cos it seems to me that in the earlier days Spoon was way into Wire, Swell Maps and other punk offshoots, but from GCT onward they've been more into soul and funk.

I've probably listened to Ga four or five times, and so far, like RL, the ones that jump out at me are "You Got Yr Cherry Bomb" and "The Underdog." And at the risk of being ostracized at this early stage in my posting career, I can't help but wonder if anyone else is reminded of Billy Joel when listening to "The Underdog."

As for my two cents on the best Spoon album debate, my favorite is A Series Of Sneaks, followed by Gimme Fiction. As I'm fairly new to Spoon, I don't have Girls Can Tell yet.

If by everybody you mean... yourself? Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga is pretty popular around here, dude. Spoon in general is.

And actually, Briznow, I can hear a little Billy Joel in The Underdog. Smiler

Haven't listened to Ga, but in the discussion of Spoon's outings, I'd say Kill The Moonlight > Gimme Fiction > Girls Can Tell = A Series Of Sneaks. I'll get on Ga.

Everything Spoon has ever done has been, for me personally, Top 10 material, but never AOY. This one is no different.

Spoon has been top ten material for me in the past, but never enough to get the #1 spot. Still, the albums are always fun and I'll listen to them a large amount, so they'll probably get top 5 status.

"Finer Feelings" has grown on me like woah, except that weird crowd-noise interlude.

Spoon is little bit too singular compared to the rest '07, to be overrated. It'd be different if it weren't stuffed full of good songs; one could argue that they don't change it up enough. But as it is, the whole album is a change-up from anything else. It could, however, use an epic prog odyssey to complement "the ghost of you lingers", but.. what can you do?

Just wanted to chime in--I have been in love with Spoon lately. I got Series of Sneaks last week, and I must have listened to it 30 times since. I also got Ga^5 and love it too. "The Underdog" is definitely the best song I've heard all year. It simultaneously sounds like nothing Spoon has done before but sounds just like them. Terrific.

Howdy, pax. The new Spoon is good, but what would you expect?

Yeah, tho Ga... is definitely a great collection of songs (except Rhythm & Soul, is anyone digging that track?) I always come back to Sneaks as my favorite Spoon album. There are so many interesting backwards guitar noodles, off-center mixed meter grooves, and straight up riffing on that album that I think the new record lacks. Although "A Ghost of You Lingers" is certainly progressive for the group, and imo one of the best tracks on Ga... Good Stuff.

I like "Rhthm & Soul". Great bassline. It sounds like it could've come off of Girls Can Tell. I maintain the weakest track is "Don't You Evah", which sort of recalls the equally dull and pointless "Was It You?" from Gimme Fiction. The handclaps almost save it, but sadly, no.

"Don't You Evah" is at least upbeat. "Was It You?" just kind of sits there.

I would say "Don't You Evah" is my favorite song off of G5, but then there's that "Finer Feelings" track that's just magnificent.

"You've Got Yr. Cherry Bomb" has some sort of bells, or chimes, that sound so damn good. They remind me of songs that I'd hear on oldies radio... maybe some sort of motown song? Definitely has nostalgic value for me, which makes the song even more enjoyable.

I think the reason why this album keeps growing is because it puts a smile on my face. It's so bouncy and happy. Smiler

It's a solid album, very entertaining, and not really worthy of any derision, yet, as Spoon keeps narrowing its vision, it limits the possibility of growing into a Behemoth. Solid, yes; Behemoth, no.

Now...Andrew Bird...

Aww. Was It you? is one of my fav tracks from Gimme Fiction. It's so dark, and the way they weaved the melody together with the little bits towards the end never fails to command me to groove.

"Was It You?" is my favorite Spoon song. Just love the creepy groove they've got going there as well as the simple but awesome drumming.
