I did read the thread. Apparently J. Mascis wasn't allowed to be mentioned either, but i just thought that was completely retarded. Sarcasm doesn't work so well over the internet, so i don't know if you were serious or not. Frankly, i don't really care. Marnie Stern sounds like she's a good guitarist, writes interesting music, etc.; therefore, i thought she was worth mentioning.
I'm going with the bass-playing Brian from Lightning Bolt, the one that isnt's Brian Chippendale. I don't give a shit if he's playing bass, it sounds like he's shredding a guitar and that's all that matters to me.

You probably don't know me very well Clevername, but if I'm being an asshole (especially on the internet) I'm almost always kidding. That being said, I WILL fuck you up.
Also, I agree on the Melt-Banana thing. I need to see them last time. Last time they came here I was like 14 and had no way of getting there.
And damn, I had a good one to add, but I don't remember who the hell it was.

Haha, thanks for the clarification, i feel i am the same way as well... With some exceptions. I figured it was sarcasm, but wasn't too offended if it wasn't, so i don't know why Mr. Glass told me to mellow out. I don't like people harshing my mellow, so i try not to reciprocate that feeling to others.
But meet me under the willow trees at sundown.
And to stay on topic, Jimi Hendrix wasn't always on a major label... He wins by default.

They still are a contender for Best Show I've Ever Seen... absolutely blew me away.
I like PJ Harvey's guitar-playing. The dude from Botch is/was amazing... Is he the These Arms Are Snakes guy? Or is he the Minus the Bear dude now? I liked that Omar Rodriguez guy when he was in At The Drive-In (God rest their soul). Has anyone mentioned Tyondai Braxton or Ian Williams of Battles yet? Tim Rutili Brian McMahan (Slint) Dave Brylawski (Polvo) Justin Trosper (Unwound) Roger Miller Mark Gardener & Andy Bell (Ride)

That "Omar Rodriguez guy" is still around in a little band called the Mars Volta. Check it out if you like At the Drive-In or even if you don't. Personally, I think that band became overrated simply because they broke up as soon as they got a hit. But that's for a different thread...

I think he was saying he liked him in ATDI but not in the Mars Volta..
And Clevername: I thought Knudson from Botch left Minus the Bear before Planet of Ice but wiki tells me otherwise. He apparently has added guitar to These Arms Are Snakes songs but is not in the band.
Word? Hey, I love Mission of Burma too but I'm not sure if playing a bunch of barre chords necessarily makes you a great guitar player.
I had a stick of CareFree gum, but it didn't work. I felt pretty good while I was blowing that bubble, but as soon as the gum lost its flavor I was back to pondering my mortality.

You mean he'd rather have a few catchy riffs and some random noodling (ATDI) then some out-of-controlg guitar solos and... some random noodling (MV)?? Blasphemous!!!

To put it lightly, i don't enjoy the Mars Volta, and i much preferred the compact, bit-sized version that ATDI put forth. It was much more precise, to the point, and infinitely better for it in my opinion.
Roger Miller's guitar speaks to me. I'm not a guitarist, so i don't know how much weight i put into technical ability. But i guess the fact that his music is so simple only heightens my enjoyment of what he gets out of the guitar. I mean, the guy played so loud he got tinnitus and has to wear ear-muffs.
Greg Sage... AMAZING. Apparently he had syneasthesia and could see the sounds he made. "Youth of America" reminds me of Seattle. I loved Seattle. I thought you all should know that about me.
EDIT: I know Greg Sage isn't from Seattle.
