Anyone already got into this. I'm trying hard!
Nothing spectacular and in no way comparable with the first album. "Twilight Omens" and "Dream Again" stand out for now.

The first half of the album is pretty fun - nothing amazing, but some good tunes. I don't care for almost anything on the second half of the record - I think it's all pretty dull. And those synthesizers just sound dumb.

Not even the final 3 minutes of "Lucid Dreams"? Or did you even get that far before skipping to the next song?

Anyways, the album is alright. I actually really love "Ulysses" and there's a couple others I don't mind listening to. Better than You Could Have It...

I've listened to the entire album a couple times through.

What's so great about the last 3 minutes of "Lucid Dreams"?

It almost made my brain explode the first time I heard it. (Though maybe it was just because I was listening on some really nice headphones cranked up to a decent volume.)

For me "Lucid Dreams" is overrated! I cannot even listen to the first half of the song. And if I want to listen to synths like these then I tune to "Revenge of Black Regent" by Add N to (x)

It almost made my brain explode too, but I think it was because that synth sound is so grating. And I still don't understand what's so great about it. There is absolutely no melody, and I find sitting and listening to it to be really boring. And it's hardly "experimental" - any 12 year old with a keyboard and some loop software could have easily done the same thing.

"Ulysses" is better than anything from their second album. An orgasmic dancefloor indie-pop tune , with an exciting production .I like especially the part in the refrain with the "out of time" warped beat & pseudo vocals(Scissor Sisters/of montreal) , like turning your vinyl form 45s to 33s!
That's how actually the whole album flows , with a more "dancey" direction and some interesting production tricks , without losing their edge(clever , sexy and their dark melodrama still here!).

I liked their first one but then grew tired of it, I loved the second one and still like it a lot.

I've streamed this once and I must say I think it's awful.

Well ya, it's not like I was thinking "wow, so experimental, FF are crazy!" it was more that they made something like this, which I would have never expected, and to me, it doesn't matter if a 12 year old could have made it, it sounds damn good to me.

Anyways, to add to my thoughts on the album, I haven't listened to it at all since probably my 5th listen, so I guess it's not really either a grower, or one worth coming back to. Which doesn't surprise me as this is what happened to me after both of their previous releases.

What all 3 records had in common was the playful pop songwriting with their witty melodramatic delivery. The first record had a certain bounciness and confidence that you could always go back to. The second was fun... but wasn't much a repeater.

This one... while still "clever, sexy (uhh), and melodramatic", is pretty damn repetitive. That doesn't mean it isn't good, it just isn't much of a shiner. If FF was to dabble in dance music, they should have known to go further than some Russian synthesizer.

This album is an enjoyable 7.5 for me. A 7.5 one trick pony... so I guess that says something?

PS: I'm not Ulysses.

He's right, this doesn't belong in the indie rock forum.

they're on domino, which is an indie label, so, yeah, technically speaking, they're an indie band.
