I appreciate the vocab lesson, but technically "circumflex" refers to '^' when it is "placed over a vowel symbol." (according to dictionary.com). I always called it a carrot.

Series of Sneaks>Girls Can Tell>Gimme Fiction>Kill the Moonlight>Telephono

Personally, Kill the Moonlight is easily my favorite. Gimme Fiction fits in nicely in my #2 slot.

I'm of the opinion that ALL of their albums are choice. That said, Kill the Moonlight is probably the one I listen to the least.

Fine...quit using that carrot!

I would agree with the Nougat man in that Kill the Moonlight would be my favorite Spoon album, right now I think Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga would be my second favorite album of theirs. But hey, who cares, they're all good!

Lotta great records; hard to argue with many selections.
Here's a few of the usual suspects, and a few slightly off the beaten track:

A.C. Newman- The Slow Wonder
Aloha- Some Echoes
The Drones- Gala Mill
The Hold Steady- B & G in A
Ladytron- Witching Hour
Liars- Drum's Not Dead
Mission of Burma- ONoffON/ The Obliterati
Nathan Fake- Drowning In A Sea of Love
The New Pornographers- Electric Version/ Twin Cinema
The Shins- Chutes Too Narrow
The Thermals- The Body, The Blood, The Machine
Viva Voce- Get Yr Blood Sucked Out
The Wrens- The Meadowlands

Among this year's crop, I would consider the following for inclusion:
Battles- Mirrored
Black Moth Super Rainbow- Dandelion Gum
Blonde Redhead- 23
Blitzen Trapper- Wild Mountain Nation
Dino Jr.- Beyond
Low- Drums And Guns
Menomena- Friend And Foe
Parts & Labor- Mapmaker

Time & repeated listens will tell.

I guess what I find that most fascinating about this thread so far is the fact that I can't really argue with ANY of the picks. I mean, even the ones I haven't hear yet, I truly SUSPECT that I would ultimately find something to love about it. I guess I just love Indie. Big Grin

I know there's a mixture of love and hate for the Knife's Silent Shout, but I'm still surprised not to see it on anyone's list. I think it cracked the top 5 on these forums for best of '06. It still holds up as my fav from last year.

The only reason I didn't include Silent Shout on my list is because it's not indie. It's my #2 album over that period though, only behind the Notwist's Neon Golden (which I also did not include on my list).

Er, ummm . . . me too. I even listen to Telephono more than KtM, although I realize that it is just a fantastic Pixies homage. My wife contends (and she loves Spoon more than anyone I know) that Britt's finest achievement is the Soft Effects EP. It is quite brilliant, actually.

I love that album and it'd be in my top 50, but I just like the albums in my top 25 a whole lot more. It is a fun album though.

Silent Shout is definitely an interesting album, but there are only three songs on there that I really, really love. Marble House, We Share Our Mother's Health, and the title track are all amazing. The rest... I could really take or leave.

That's a fair assessment. The album does maintain a thick atmosphere throughout, though.

For some reason I'm a big fan of "Like a Pen" too.

Well, it's almost impossible to narrow it down to ten albums... Let's try, in random order:

Spoon - Kill The Moonlight
Radiohead - Kid A
Arcade Fire - Funeral
The Shins - Chutes Too Narrow
Wilco - Yankee Foxtrot Hotel
Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake It's Morning
The Decemberists - The Crane Wife
Iron & Wine - Our Endless Numbered Days
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - s/t
The National - Boxer
