And you don't listen to much ambient do you? I'm assuming a "no" because there is a rare characteristic of ambient music missing from most bands (and therefore the people who listen to them) and that would be: patience. I wouldn't classify Panda Bear as anything really close to ambient but "Bros" has a repetitive "devil-in-the-details" hypnotism going for it that I really enjoy.
No, you're right I don't. I do enjoy some repetitive/dronish/ambient type tracks occasionally, but not a ton of it. I'll 2nd listening to M83. I love Sonic Youth's "Diamond Sea" and other feedback workouts. I'm just can't get into this. A lot of listeners are finding plenty to love about it, so I'll take your word for it.

I'm still pretty mixed on this. I like some of this album, and the rest just bores me. "Comfy in Nautica" is freakin' awesome though. "Bros" could be a lot shorter and it would make me much happier. Overall, I think this could be better.

i like this cd so far, but its nothing great, in my opinion.
it does seem like an album that is a grower but im having problems giving it the time it needs simply because of the modest mouse and arcade fire among others.
maybe in a slow month this year i'll dust it off and give it another go.

No way. Bros is perfect. The repetitions get under your skin and help you get lost in the sound. Its like a journey into another consciousness. Awesome album. I can't stop listening to it.

It literally sounds like it should be good, but I get tired of it pretty quickly, and I've given it plenty of chances. I'm just not sure it will ever hit me the way it does some of you folks. I actually put it on during a fairly long drive with my GF last weekend, and we both kind of had that, "Ummm...this is kinda boring" moment. So, what did we put on? "23"

To anyone who thinks it's boring: give it a few more tries!
When I heard the leak a while back, I thought it was terribly boring and didn't listen to it again until the official release, (even then, I was hesitant to buy it) and I only bought it because of all the good reviews.
A few listens later, it's my #2 album of the year. "Take Pills", "I'm Not", "Bros", "Ponytail"...it's all good.
I disagree with anyone who says "Bros" is too long, and I'm not usually a fan of extremely long songs myself. I forget how long it is when I start listening to it. It's the shortest 12 minutes of my day.
I've got to admit that my first impression of this album was 'boring' too. You would think that after the first listen it could only get more boring, no? Wrong!
It wasn't until I was at least a tad familiar with the contours of the various textures and things in the several 7+ minute songs that I began to get a grip on the music. I thought the fork reviews analogy with electronic/dance music was a fair one.
Okay, I'll give "Comfy in Nautica" props. That song isn't bad.

I'm pretty sure I heard "Bros" on college radio today. That was pretty weird.
It must have been "super-long-song hour" at WUOG, because right after that was the Built to Spill cover of Neil Young's "Cortez the Killer", which, though totally fucking awesome, is also really fucking long.

I don't see the need to start a new band, this seems like a logical progression for animal collective. That only makes me more excited about the next animal collective release, to see which direction the rest of the band wishes to take.
The head of state has called for me, but I don't have time for him

i think this is hands-down the best album of the year thus far. the album is absolutely gorgeous, and the subtleties are what makes it so great. it so densely layered with all these sounds, and then you've got the percussion and vocals driving it throughout. i usually look at vocals as secondary and really just another layer of sound over music, but on this album, i really like how they're up front.
don't get me wrong, i think arcade fire's new album is a great album, but this easily beats it (and funeral) in my book.
I hate animal collective, but I just had to give Person Pitch a chance based on the intriguing samples I heard on Amazon/ iTunes.
I must say that I enjoy this album, although I dont really know why. This is one of those albums that is very difficult to pull off without it being too unacessible/ boring etc; but he did it. It's a musical triumph IMO - and I dont consider myself a fan of Panda Bear persey.

listening to "Bros" or "Comfy in Nautica" (the only PB songs that i know so far) i feel a bittersweet nostalgia and melancholia.Maybe its the weather (its raining nonstop for 3 days in my city) but i v got the feeling that its the greatness of the music .an album that i 'll definitely buy as soon as i can.

Wow thats very high praise indeed, being better than funeral. Although i dont think it is quite that good, i reckon its an excellent album, but one that you really have to spend some time with. I think it is an album that can very easily be dismissed by people after just a few listens before it really sinks in, which may explain some of the mixed responses early on. I personally dont feel my opinion is worth anything till i listen to something 9 times (i have scientifically tested this)anything less than that and i am in danger of being completely wrong. I should add that i have listened to panda Bear 14 times and therefore i have covered myself on this post.
