I think the most complimentary thing they had to say about "Carnavas" by Silversun Pickups was that the girl in the band was hot. I still haven't confirmed this, but "Carnavas" has become one of my favorite albums of last year.

Deloused... by The Mars Volta. I guess I don't care nearly as much for their stuff since then (although I enjoyed Frances the Mute for a while before it seemed old to me), but Deloused is a very, very good album, IMO.

Yeah, I agree with you. I like their first two albums quite a bit and even though Amputechture wasn’t that great, there are at least a few awesome songs on it. I think they are coming out with a new one early next year and I hope that it is great.

I'd have to say Shitdisco's Kingdom of Fear which I know wasn't amazing, but was really catchy. Any Kaiser Cheifs record, I really find them catchy. And Jet, JUST KIDDING.
They rank all over Kasabian's first s/t release, which I like as well. Lastly, I'd have to say Ode to Ochrasy by Mando Diao.
It pays to kill anyone who has information.

If you're looking for stuff like Boredoms, you're looking in the wrong place. p4k will have more experimental stuff reviewed occasionally, but they rarely give it the coverage it deserves.. they miss most of the good stuff too (or are way late on it).
For the record, I think most of the low Ryan Adams scores were undeserved. I mean, they gave Gold a lower score than Easy Tiger. Something wrong about that.
Such a good album. The new one is great as well. I love the texture/tones/atomosphere the band creates with their lethargic pop sensibilities and underlying gooey melodies.
the New Six Organs of Admittance album Shelter from the Ash just got a lowly 4.9 which I think is preposterous.
Haven't actually heard the whole thing yet but all the tracks and clips I've heard sound brilliant, especially the title track
and I'm still upset about the Crippled Black Phoenix review. It ain't a perfect album but hell it's still worth a few listens at least. They lowballed the newest Pelican cd too

I thought the Six Organs score was pretty spot on at 4.9. I've been a big fan for a long time, but this record is the most boring thing Ben Chasny's done. I didn't need Pitchfork to tell me that either, the album is by-the-numbers Six Organs of Admittance. It's as if Chasny took all of the most cliched things in his repertoire and put them on one album together. I hope his next one is better.

Yeah - I got to open for these guys, and they were mind-blowing! I really like Sucks Blood, too.
It's easy to rag on P4K, but I for one have countless times found new bands solely based on their reviews. Just tonight, for example, I listened to Tulsa for the first time (the review was posted today). And the review was spot on, from my early impressions. I'm not an apologist for anybody, but I honestly think P4K has done more for the rise of the indie rock scene than any other online or print media source - and by a long shot. Sure, they (the collective "they") don't get it right all the time - but hell, neither do I (or you or you or you). I guess I should start the "opposite of this thread title" thread.

Okay I decided not to wait for someone to get this for me for Christmas and picked it up today. In short, i think both you and the pitchfork reviewer are totally shortchanging this album, because it sounds terrific to me. The only thing I could even think of calling boring about it is the album cover. I don't have his whole back catalog, just his last album, so maybe that helps me appreciate it as being more novel. novelty aside, I think it does a terrific job of synthesizing the acoustic elements with the noise elements and has the feel of a solid album that I didn't get from The Sun Awakens. I've only heard a few of his older songs and am going to have to look into them more

They gave it an 8.6?
Ohhh. My bad. I tend to just look at the number they give. The only review I've actually read was the one for the Moon and Antarctica, because it was great. Their reviews tend to say nothing about the album, but other pointless things I never care about. Ever.
It was more the words that they wrote in that review and not the number.

If you're going to investigate Chasny's back catalog, may I suggest School of the Flower and my personal favorite, Dark Noontide.
The new one got a great review in the newest issue of WIRE, but I still don't see anything all that special about it. I think I'm just getting sick of hearing copious amounts of psyche-folk so maybe I'm shortchanging Chasny's latest because of that. Only time will tell, maybe it's going to be a grower for me.
