I'm not too good on the 90's. I was in middle school for that whole time. Jeff Buckley's "Lover, You Should've Come Over" is a real heartbreaker though.

Spiritualized- Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Outer Space: I have sad this over and over again but this opening track does not fail to impress.
The The- This is the Day: Yes, it's the '80s but the song is bloody brilliant.
My Bloody Valentine- When You Sleep: There's a possibility that it will scare her.
69 Love Songs by the Magnetic Fields: Choose what you like!
Actually anything by the Magnetic Fields
Yo La Tengo- Autumn Sweater: Dig it!

"Violence, she solved everything"

First of all, if you are crushing on the girl and truly trying to impress her then you should do this entirely on your own. It has to have your own touch, not what a bunch of music geeks picked out. If you really don't want to do that then I will list the albums from the 90s that should be included and you could essentially pick out any song from those albums to do the trick:

Aphex Twin- Selected Ambient Works 85-92, Richard D. James Album
Beck – Odelay, Mutations, Midnite Vultures
Björk- Debut, Post, Homogenic
Buena Vista Social Club – S/T
Nirvana- Nevermind, In Utero, MTV Unplugged in New York
R.E.M.- Automatic for the People
The Flaming Lips – Transmissions from the Satellite Heart, Clouds Taste Metallic, The Soft Bulletin
Weezer – S/T (Blue Album), Pinkerton
The Chemical Brothers – Exit Planet Dust, Dig Your Own Hole
Radiohead – The Bends, OK Computer
Elliott Smith – S/T, Either/Or, XO
Garbage – Version 2.0
Lauryn Hill – The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
Moby – Play
The Roots – Things Fall Apart
U2- Achtung Baby
Wilco – Summerteeth, Being There
Yo La Tengo- Fakebook, Painful, I Can Hear the Heart Beating As One

Hey it's cool, I would go for Weezer's Pinkerton, mainly because well I just love that album and anything by Yo La Tengo, Radiohead, Elliott Smith, Wilco, U2, R.E.M., Beck and Björk for sure.

Neutral Milk Hotel's song 'in the aeroplane over the sea' from the same-titled album is guaranteed to make you happy.

Haha, I was only 11 years old when that CD came out so unfortunately I didn't get to it until maybe a year or 2 after that. Right around 1997-98, I found a ton of music that I utterly fell in love with and this was one of those albums. When I did hear it though I just melted. It is gripping, emotional, smart; simply a blistering album to get ahold of. I never thought anything less of it and I like everything about it, and it is a concept album too! I love the Madame Butterfly influence and the way that Rivers Cuomo tried to model this after it, I love the choice of artwork--boy I just love it period. My girlfriend prefers their self-titled debut because well, its nicer, easier on the ears, more lovey-dovey and what not but I will take the amazing album about a guy who foolishly falls for lesbians any day. It is a thing of beauty--but I also do like their first album a lot as well.

Let me know what songs you end up choosing and good luck, it is hard to impress chicks.

Merry X-Mas. Here's some cool 90s tracks that both you and your potential chick can enjoy. I left out the super common stuff I'm sure you already know about (Weezer, U2, Radiohead, Belle & Sebastian, Neutral Milk Hotel, Elliot Smith). Not that there's anything wrong with those guys, but I figured you might want some deeper cuts.

"Enjoy The Silence" - Depeche Mode
"The Ship Song" - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
"Tomorrow, Wendy" - Concrete Blonde
"All Shook Down" - The Replacements
"The Concept" - Teenage Fanclub
"Country Feedback" - R.E.M.
"Here" - Pavement
"Stratford-on-Guy" - Liz Phair
"Debonair" - Afghan Whigs
"Candy" - Morphine
"Laid" - James
"Web In Front"- Archers of Loaf
"Into Your Arms" - The Lemonheads
"Someone to Pull The Trigger" - Matthew Sweet
"Last Goodbye" - Jeff Buckley
"The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get" - Morrisey
"Tom Courtenay" - Yo La Tengo
"On Fire" - Sebadoh
"Sink to the Bottom" - Fountains of Wayne
"Flower Girl" - Joe Henry
"(Are You) The One That I've Been Waiting For?" - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
"Buy Her Candy" - Sleater-Kinney
"Where Do I Begin" - The Chemical Brothers
"Song 2" - Blur
"Protection" - Massive Attack
"Torture" - Jon Spencer BLues Explosion
"No DIstance Left To Run" - Blur
"Major Leagues" - Pavement

And if you really want to get with this chick, you've got to put Massive Attack's "Protection" on there. Totally sexy tune. It's the 90s version of "Let's Get It On".

I thought you were trying to get into her pants, no? Either way, "Laid" is a classic. Everyone digs that tune. In no scenario is that a bad choice.

Haha, good mix yorkie. Looks like you went for more of a rock feel with a touch of radio hits on this CD. Either way I hope it helps in your search for something special. OK, enough sentimental writing for tonight.

On a more very, very, very serious and bewildered note, even if it came out in 2006, how does thomeyorkeisgod not have a song by Thom Yorke's The Eraser in this mix?!?!

Neutral Milk Hotel - "Holland, 1945"
Dismemberment Plan - "What Do You Want Me To Say"
David Francey - "Borderline"
Notwist - "No Encores"
Onelinedrawing - "Smile"
Mark Lanegan - "Carnival"
Delgados - "Pull the Wires From the Wall"
Smog - "Hit the Ground Running"
Wrens - "I've Made Enough Friends"

Hey, I was just picking on you but didn't mean for you to change your name. I just like picking on you because you do have a funny name and I just think it's funny. But don't go changing your name on account of me being a jerk. Cool
