I think "Middle of Nowhere" is a great pop song. It's certainly not indie cool, but it's better than a lot of the other pop dreck I hear on the radio. But the indie cool folks could only ever like it ironically.

I thought Hot Hot Heat, when they were 'indie', sounded like a ripoff of early XTC. Now they sound like a popped up ripoff of early Elvis Costello.

Translation: They moved to a major label so I have to say that they suck.

No, they just blow ass and always have. Franz Ferdinand too. Now Mint Records, there's Canadian indie.

Translation: The same overbearing indie snobbery as the last poster.
Wrong, Franz Ferdinand is on Domino (an indie label). They just suck and so does Hot Hot Heat.
How many translaters have led nations to war?

That doesn't matter. They have been picked up by the tastes of the mainstream, have they not? Ergo, indie snobs have to cock up some pretend hate of them.

That fact that something is totally indie won't stop it from being hated by indiots? Sorry, can't really follow the logic there. If you hate mainstream music, you hate mainstream music and the word indie should left out entirely.

Using the word "ergo", you qualify as a snob of snobs, so you're really the exact same thing.

There really were a bunch of great bands coming out of Canada (Arcade Fire, New Pornographers, Unicorns), but I feel like stuff is dying down. Wolf Parade was all hype and no good music, for example.

All right, to be fair, they're not necessarily bad. They're just nowhere near as good as everyone made them out to be.

Well I mean seeing how many people(including myself) really like(in my case love) Wolf Parade, I don't think that's a great example.
