I don't know when this was added but the last thing I saw was sigur ros releasing in late 2007/08. But the upcoming release calender has Sigur Ros - Hvarf/Heim coming in November? Pretty exciting.
I know that they were releasing a movie type thing of all their free concerts in the caves of iceland though.
The head of state has called for me, but I don't have time for him

The new 2 cd release of Hvarf-Heim leaked today. I've been listening to it for about 3 hours now. I really enjoy the acoustic live 2nd cd, heim. It's got some of my favorite sigur ros songs on it, and stripped down, they're really nice.
The studio cd, Hvarf has got some pretty nice tracks on it as well. The songs are a tad bit long though.
For those that heard the leaks: are the new tracks a departure from their latest work? I loved Takk... but I'm curious if they are trying to change their sound in new and exciting ways.
I've always secretly hoped that Sigur Ros would take those droning bowed guitar parts and really up the ante, adding perhaps a noise or found sound element to their repertoire. For that reason, I thought Glossoli was stunning and the obvious high point on Takk...
The new album(s) are gorgeous. My only question: does this count for year-end-lists? It's kind of like a b-sides plus unplugged collection of old favorites, and not really meant to be an "album." Either way it's a solid collection of new recordings from a very unique band. Favorites so far are "Hafsol" and "Staralfur"(no surprise there). If you love this band, you'll love this as well. Btw, the two discs add up to about 72 minutes, so it's well worth the price.
Yeah it isn’t a bad album at all. I think that if you are a fan of their previous work, you should like this new one. I read somewhere that this proves that they aren’t only good because they have mastered dynamics. This album has stripped out versions and B-sides that sound amazing. They are a solid band because they know how to write good music. But after four albums that all sound very similar, will they ever branch out? That isn’t to say that their music isn’t good because it quite is but still.
Also, I think this would count on your-end list if you wanted it to. It’s mostly un-released material, or new versions of songs and you did hear them for the first time in 2007.
By the way, the first part of this album—the studio version—is streaming here.

I'm listening to the stream right now and I love the first track, "Salka," aka track 3 on (). I like this version even better, actually. I used to listen to tracks 3 & 4 on () as I was falling asleep - it always made me feel at peace...
Edit: I was actually listening to "Samskeyti" on Heim, the live CD, not "Salka" on Hvarf. The stream was mislabeled.
