Hi!
I find your taste in indie music quite good Wink - so I would appreciate if you could help me out on this one ...

I am a big fan of bands like Interpol, Bloc Party, Arcade Fire, CYHSY, Franz Ferdinand, Strokes - and would like you to recommend some bands/or artists that are similar in sound and style.
Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you!

Check out Editors who have a similar sound sig to Interpol - Album was called 'In the Back Room' but there is a new one coming out soon.

I love this album.

Kings of Leon. Try the album Aha Shake Heartbreak. I wasnt fond of the lead singer's voice at first, but really, it's perfect for the accompanying music. couldnt picture someone with your musical predilections disliking it.

Interpol, Bloc Party, Arcade Fire and Franz Ferdinand are all strongly influenced by British Post-punk check out Joy Division, Echo & the Bunnymen, Magazine and Gang of Four

CYHSY, parts of the first CYHSY sound uncannily like the Violent Femmes

Strokes, for some reason were always compared to Television and the Velvet Underground, although I don't see this, you should check those two bands out if you have not already.

If you're looking for new bands that sound like the bands you like a great reference is The Allmusic Guide, just look up your favorite bands and scroll down to see a list of similar artists. It will also point out side projects you might not have been aware of, and the band's main influences (although I suspect most of this is conjecture). Happy hunting!

The Futureheads. I never liked them as much as any of the aforementioned but the sound is in the same vein.

The National. Apparently, according to the bloggers and the press, they sound like every band that ever sold more than 5 records. They also are the winners of the Six Degrees of Separation award, for having some touring/friend/neighbor/grandfather relationship to almost half the bands already mentioned.

Musically a little different, but yeah, if Gordon Gano could copyright his voice, Alec Ounsworth would be paying him royalties.

In fact, Interpol is not really influenced by Joy Division. I think there is just one Interpol member who really listen often to Joy Division...I read it on the Interpol official site forum...

I always thought Interpol sounded more like Echo, to be honest, but I can hear similarities with Joy Division regardless of whether or not they were going for that.

I also recommend the Chameleons and Kitchens of Distinction if you like Interpol.

Also, and some of you may laugh at this, A Flock of Seagulls.

I'll second Television and say that if you like the Strokes, you might like the Sammies.

We Are Scientists sounds a lot like those bands, so does Hot Hot Heat
That similar dance hall feel and throwback to britpop.

And whats weird, these bands all made me get out my old Talking Heads tracks and I appreciated them a lot more.

I agree. When the We Are Scientists and Arctic Monkey's albums came out, I couldn't stand them. I felt they were too repititive and devoid of any redeeming qualities (the new Arctic Monkeys album is so damn good though)
