These dudes are awesome. A mixture of Arcade Fire, Of Montreal, and The Pipettes. Yeah, I read the P4K review. Still, after checking out their MySpace page, I'm convinced this is the next big thing.
A body of work larger than four songs would be needed to convince me of anything. However, I did like their sound and I do encourage everyone to hop on their myspace (there is a link through the p4k review) and give them a listen.
I like 'em, too. The p4k article says you can dl the EP there, but all I can see is the stream. Any way to dl it?
Never mind, I found out how to do it!

I think they're somewhat overrated, what with the insane blog buzz, the CMJ buzz, and the "Best New Music" tag from P4K. There wasn't anything special that grabbed me, but overall an ok sound.

I agree. They're coming a bit further south to my neck of the woods, Mike, but I will not be going to see them. Partially because it's a 21+ show (but they let me in anyways there because they like me) and also because I just don't feel the hype. At all.

I actually liked the Black Kid's stuff but I do agree that the hype is way overboard. I didn't help things by also hyping them (I am however basking in having a good google ranking when you search for their album).
The music seems more like a guilty pleasure and this hype is probably going to set the bar WAY too high for this band.
I imagine they'll put out an album asap while they can still ride this hype out.. if they wait another month or two they'll be experiencing the inevitable backlash haha.. and that's a killer.
I just got home from playing basketball, on the way, I discovered an unlabeled disc among leaves and (Of course) brought it home to see what I had found. Turns out, it's The Wizard of Ahhs, this brings a strange sort of question about the life of this disc. What happened to it? Who made it (I'd love to meet a hot chick who listens to music that doesn't suck)? Did the person not like the EP and simply discard it? We shall never know.
On listening to this again, I realized that I like it more now than I did when I originally heard it. It's really nice.
The problem isn't you finding a girl that listens to music that doesn't suck, that's the second obstacle. The first obstacle is finding a girl who would want a guy who puts "I poop Super Furry Animals..." as their forum sig.

Being Black myself, I'm not sure it would've sat too well w/ me if the band were all White. Mighta been one of those borderline ironic/"are they being racist?" things. But mere name aside, I listened to one song on Youtube ("Not Gonna Teach..") & was impressed. Looking forward to hearing more. Maybe I'm simply out of the indie loop, but personally, I think it's cool to see faces of color in the genre. I was starting to think there were *practically* none for indie rock.
Reggie Youngblood, of Black Kids, announces a release date and gives the album a title in the interview. Although I'm not a fan of the band, this interview makes me respect them.
