I'm not sure if this is slightly more suited to electronica (if so move it), regardless the Notwist are coming out with a new album finally six years after neon golden and personally I'm pretty stoked.
Oooh, sounds really good. Looking forward to this one.

Neon Golden is my favorite album of all time Hopefully they get back on track with the new one! Haven't heard the song yet but I will get around to it if it's really as good as you say it is.

To be honest, the one song I heard didn't sound like too much of a departure from Neon Golden. Now, while I love Neon Golden, I'm not sure if I'd love Neon Golden 2: The Reckoning. I like some artistic progression.
That said I'm only going off of one song. Fingers crossed that they make another classic.

Both the title track and "One with the Freaks" heavily use guitar.
The new song does sound good though!

To me, "Good Lies" sounds like a huge departure. It's not too good in my book. The only reason there's a hook at all is that they repeat it ad nauseum. I love Neon Golden as much as anyone, and I still have high hopes for this. "Consequence" was a single and the worst song on NG in my opinion, so maybe they just don't know how to pick 'em.
Consequence was amazing. A fantastic way to end an album!
Maayyyybe not a great choice for a single, though.

Wow did not realize it was leaked already... thanks for the heads up...
Update: I haven't listened to the album enough to decide how good it is. My first listen I was a little ambivalent towards it but the more I'm listening to it the more its soaking in and growing on me. Once I listen to this album for the next 3 days straight I'll give a few more thoughts on it.

So far, I think it's pretty good. Neon Golden didn't flatten me immediately, either.

My god. I love The Notwist. So far I think TDY+M is wonderful. It's a simple, gentle, warm, slow burner of an album and I can definitely feel it growing on me. Just like the single, Good Lies, really. Can hear some IDM influences and the like, but it also feels more more accessible in a way. Maybe a little more guitar-rey and lighter than Neon Golden?

Same for me, and I think this is worth remembering. That said, one thing that bothers me a bit about the new album is that it's more acoustic and less electronic than Neon Golden. They're better when they utilize electronics. Also, no banjo.
Still, if I had come across an album like this from some unknown band, I'd be thrilled.

I've been listening to this non-stop for a couple of days. First, let me say this about Neon Golden. It might be the most unique sounding indie album of the decade. Its rustic banjo picking sounds 100 years old, mixed with glitch laptop production and the cool, German accented singing. Nothing sounds like it... Including the new one.
Its still fantastic, just different. Many of these songs like "Gloomy Planets" and the title track were clearly originally written on acoustic guitar, where little on their first album seemed to come from there. "Gone Gone Gone" even rips the acoustic guitar part from the Allman Bros' "Melissa". "Good Lies" and "Boneless" sound like songs Death Cab for Cutie would die to record, with only the German accented vocals seperating it from a lot of other stuff out there (and of course the fact that these are amazing songs.) The handful of electronic based songs are great as well. "On Planet Off" reminds me of Kraftwerk's "Show Room Dummies" only better.
For those of you who absolutely love Neon Golden, I suspect some of you are disappointed. But don't give up because it doesn't sound like its predecessor. Maybe its not another banjo/laptop combo, but thankfully the songwriting and melodies are still gorgeous. Its a deep, detailed, amazing album. There's not a single second on it that I don't love. Great album that demands repeated listens, preferably with headphones!
