I'm sitting here listening to the song "Alaska" from Dr. Dog's We All Belong. I had to do a double take, because I thought somehow that iTunes had switched to Wilco's "Hate it Here" from Sky Blue Sky.
Is it just me, or do these songs sound very similar?

Alright, I have an assignment for everybody. Listen to "Alaska" and "Hate It Here" back to back, and tell me if the verses are not almost identical.
I think these albums came out roughly at the same time. How could two bands have made such similar tunes independent of one another? How weird is that.

On "Alaska" the guitars and drums kind of sound like "Hate it Here," but the vocals, harmony vocals and the small yelps don't sound anything like it. You asked only about the verses and I can hear some similiarities, the choruses are definitely not the same though.
I do hear some similarities in the verses. They kind of follow the same pattern, maybe they both showed each other their music. Another think about the bands is that they are touring together as well, eerie...

That could explain it. I didn't realize that they were touring together.
