Hey RL. Just spend the next couple of weeks healing up. Then you can hop a plane to LA and catch the show with crob, joymonger, and me. It'll be more fun that way.

Ha, that'd be great, but now that my paltry income has been even further decimated by this injury (I had already missed over two months of work when I originally broke it back in February), I can afford a plane ticket less than ever.

That sucks, RL. I'll see if I can record the show and put it up on youtube for you.

Thanks, fellas. I'm pretty much confining myself to the couch for the moment. On the bright side, I'm getting a lot of reading done. I'll catch the RAA one of these days, hopefully before they become huge and ticket prices are $100+. Big Grin

So, who is going to catch The RAA on their summer tour and where?

As you all know, I'm going to catch them at the Echo in Los Angeles on July 10. I know crob and joymonger will be there. Anyone else going to catch them on the tour?

I'm definitely there - my tickets came in the mail last week, and I put in my request for work off just a few hours ago. Smiler

Excited to see you guys there, excited to be bringing a sweet girl as my date, and excited to meet the band and see them perform amazing songs at such a small venue (I've never been, but I've heard it's...cozy).

Hey, someone dropped the 3 grand necessary to get the private concert from the Kickstarter project!

Is it possible that there is a bigger fan out there then me?

I was just looking at that a few days ago, and they hadn't sold that yet, so it must have happened recently...

Either way, I bet they are freaking excited to have a personal concert for themselves! I wonder where they will have to travel to?

The band just tweeted that they would play a private Canada Day party in Calgary on July 1 for free beer and BBQ.

The guy that paid $3,000 for the private concert must be pissed. Big Grin

They're coming to Portland on July 7th, a few days before the LAX stop. I may check them out.

Tickets bought Smiler Me +1.

I know it's kind of blasphemous, but I have yet to buy their album. I plan on doing so this Friday.

See you there, my friend. I've got a +1 as well, as far as I know.

And of course, Troy will be there to introduce us to the band after. I'm super stoked for this show. Cool

I went to see them recently - very good concert. Only 2 disappointments, really: they didn't play "Deadroads", which is one of my favourites, and I think it could have been a bit better if it wasn't for the fact that they were on a fairly small stage that didn't have much room for movement. They seem like really nice people, though, and were really appreciative of the audience, even though it was probably smaller than what they're used to by now. I also got them to sign my CD!! I was pretty excited. Big Grin

The Saddle Creek release of Hometowns is this week, so those of you pining for that Pitchfork review should get your fix any day now. What do you think, will they grab a "Best New Music" tag?

I can't wait for the reviews to start rolling in. Ready to bask in affirmation, or shake my fist in righteous indignation.

Pitchfork reviewed it: http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/12739-hometowns/

8.0 and no Best New Music. Honestly I think the score is a bit low, especially if you actually read the review. They say not one negative thing about the album. I don't even think they say anything even ambivalent about it. The same review could have easily been attached to a 9.0. But oh well, still a hugely positive review from the most influential tastemaker today. Lets hope the momentum continues!

Pretty accurate score from pitchfork, but I think it deserved the "Best New Music" distinction as well.

Damn! I got scooped again. And by someone's first post, no less.

80 is good, but I think a little low. Disappointed that no BNM.

AV Club gave it a B rating and a nice little review.

I got around to listening to this and it's not that as good as some may think. There's nothing especially moving about it and a lot of the songs start well without really going anywhere.

The singing is particularly horrible. The singer reminds me of Eef Barzelay and his nasally delivery is off-putting. But even worse, the female vocalist is tone death. Plus her voice is all throat and she sings with no conviction. It's a shame they let her voice close the album out, poor choice.

Wow! This is something I did not expect from you, FKA.

Well, to each his own.

I'm surprised at how good Pitchfork's review was. I would've guessed mid 6s. Then again, who the hell is Rebecca Raber?
