I'm really excited to go to the Echo show too! I'll be sure to bring a couple friends along who I've since sold the band to.

The Echo is kind of...cozy...haha, it's very small, and the area surrounding it is kind of shady. I still like it though. I've seen plenty of shows there and at its sister location the Echoplex, which is larger.

Excellent! We will all have to arrange some way to meet. It'll be interesting to actually MEET you people.

Hey crob and joymonger,

According to their website, they're going to be in Los Angeles this weekend, playing an acoustic set at the Bandit Art Galary!! I just sent them a text message seeking confirmation.

Edit: I just received an email from Nils. It's just going to be him. A low key event. I'm going to see if I can swing it. It's at 3 p.m.

Schwing! There's an Indianapolis show on that tour. I will be there.

Nils' solo show in LA was great. I videotaped the whole thing. I'll be posting it on youtube tonight. I will provide links when I'm done.

As promised, here are the youtube links to Nils' solo show today. It was a great set. He played several RAA songs, a couple of covers, and a couple of songs I never heard before. Some of the songs came out really well in a solo acoustic guitar performance. Both "Sleep All Day" and "The Air", two songs which I always thought were the weakest on the album, were much more intimate and effective in this format. Here are the links:

Untitled Song

The Deathbridge in Lethbridge

Sleep All Day

The Eye of the Tiger (Survivor cover)

Don't Haunt this Place

S.O.S. (ABBA cover)

Unidentified Song 1 (never heard it before)

The Air

In the Summertime

Unidentified Song 2 (never heard it before)

The two Unidentified Songs may have been original songs or they may have been covers. They sound like Nils' writing, so they are probably original. But, if anybody recognizes them as covers, please let me know.

I was surprised by how good (and completely straight faced) the ABBA cover was.

"Sleep All Day" was actually one of my personal highlights off the album. It's nice a good slow motion rock song with some harmony shifts, but I agree that the accoustic version changes it a lot and gives it a different character.

"In The Summertime" really doesn't have the same power without the drums playing in a round opposite the guitars and vocals though.

It's a good set though. thanks for posting.

I did it for you, my friend. No excuses for July 10, though. Put in your request to get that off work now.

We pulled out all the stops for our Canadian friend. We even arranged for a fairly substantial earthquake to occur while he was out here.

Agreed. And "Don't Haunt this Place", while good acoustically, really needs Paul's excellent drumming and Amy's harmony. It's not quite the same without it.

Don't worry - that day is free from work for me (even if I have to call out sick...it's just retail), and the night before is The Hold Steady!

And are you talking about Mother Earth's orgasm? I felt that thing rolling for like 15 seconds, and I live like 40 miles from the epicenter! Good stuff. Smiler

I live about 3 miles from the epicenter, and it didn't roll much for me. It pretty much threw me out of my recliner.

Thats a great image. Haha. Some guy just trying to listen to Hometowns in peace, and BAM. Earthquake.

I'm personally waiting for the BIG ONE. It's gonna be a hit when it gets here. Enjoy a short article regarding this: http://www.theonion.com/content/node/29375

Guys, stop freaking me out about the earthquake...

Damn, I didn't check out MC until today so I totally missed out on that solo set... Frowner

If I remember, I'm just going to start yelling "FALL OF TROY" and "CROB" (is it short O or a long O?) out loud at the Echo and hopefully you guys respond to me. Me being the dark, skinny Asian.

You know, I always intended it to be C-Rob, sort of like A-Rod or something like that. But now people (in real life, as well) have started calling me Crob (short o). Maybe I'll just change my handle to Corn on the Crob or something. XD

Saw for the third time on Friday, once again at The Bell House (although they were the headliners this time). Was recognized by the band halfway through their set as 'that guy that is always at our concerts standing in the same place.' They did, indeed, play "Eye of the Tiger," and it was as hysterical as I predicted. After the show, I drunkenly got my hands on their set-list and got the 3 of them to sign it. Good times as always. See this band. Seek them out and talk to them. The music is awesome. They are awesome.

I hate to say it, but I am almost rooting against them at this point--I've had too much fun seeing them in such intimate venues.
