Is there anyone here that seriously does not get the fact that I'm completely joking? Should I be using more winky faces?

"On a sunny day at night" should've been a giveaway I think.

See, now I'm disappointed you don't actually listen to music on headphones with your friends. I heard a story on NPR about silent raves where everyone wears their own ipods and dances to their own music. It looks kind of spastic with everyone moving at different tempos, but its lots of FUN.

If it's any consolation, I work in an office where everyone listens to music on headphones. Rarely do people walk in from the street, but sometimes someone will come in and start talking and the entire room will just sit there and ignore them because we are all so engrosed in our work and our music. It's like entering a Borg cube. Only instead of planning the assimilation of all mankind we are totally ROCKING OUT!

For all the hype in this thread, I can’t believe how utterly mediocre this album is. What a let down.

Totally missed this comment to me first time through...

That was a total mistake on my part. I hadn't listened to the album much back when I made my final list, but if I had, it would have made top 10. I frequently keep my lists updated simply for the interest of keeping them updated, and I currently have it sitting in at number 5. Wink

So thanks for pointing out the flagrant travesty that was my best of 08 list. :P

But I agree, if they ever make it to LA, we shall have to meet up there and meet this "Amy" you speak of.

I've gotten a bunch of my friends into this album as well, so hopefully it'll be half of the UCLA music department that shows up to the show. If it ever happens.

You're a Bruin? That's good to know. There's a reason why I call myself "The Fall of Troy".

Go Bruins!

My source says that the RAA is planning a short tour in the US after SXSW. Not sure how far west they'll come, but here's hoping.

Go Bruins! And now I have the utmost respect for your name.

Gosh, I hope they make it here. That would be spectacular.

first!

You guys are on a roll, first Cymbals Eating Guitars and now this??

You're so far ahead of the curve that you've lapped the average critic on the mobius strip that is music unearthing.

AV Club were also really impressed with the RAA at the show, even though they got the singer's and drummer's name confused

Where did I go??? Why am I being replaced???

Now Pitchfork and AVClub are singing their praises?!?!?! They've hit the big time!!!!

The only reason the guy from AV Club hadn't heard of them is because he hasn't been paying attention. And, Pitchfork should not be so surprised. I noticed that one of their critics had the RAA in their top 20 last year.

Wait, now that they're on the Devil's website, am I supposed to hate them?

Sweet--looks like they'll be back in New York on April 5th. For just $10!!! And the freakin' Spinto Band is opening for THEM?!? If nothing else, this band gets my vote for cheapest amazing live show.

I won't let anyone replace me!!!

To prove that I'm still the RAA's biggest fan, I'm flying across country from Los Angeles to Washington D.C. just to catch their show at the Rock and Roll Hotel on April 4.

Yes, I am. I fly out on Thursday night April 2 on the Red Eye with my 9-year old son. We're staying at the Grand Hyatt two blocks from the National Mall. The show is at the Rock and Roll Hotel, which is about two miles from where we are staying.

Since the Rock and Roll Hotel is not a bar, I can take my son (saving me money on a babysitter). So, we'll have Friday, Saturday, and most of Sunday to see the sights, and we fly back late on Sunday night.

My son is getting into the RAA. Right now, his favorite song is Deathbridge in Lethbridge. He likes to sing the "wooo oo oo oo" part over and over again. Now I understand the line from the the old Alanis Morrissett song "You Learn" "Wear it out, the way a three-year old would do."

I'll post pictures of me and Amy together when I get back.

Wow, that's crazy. Hope you enjoy it, man. They're at Chicago on April 1st, which is probably 3.5 hours or so from me. Probably won't make it, but it wouldn't be impossible that I go.

Here's an interesting article coming out of SXSW. We are implicitly mentioned in it:

Rock Star Treatment

That is some dedication, flying all the way across the country to see them. I'd definitely catch them if they played a Los Angeles show, but damn...

Nice write up from Rock Star Treatment.

Here's a little something about the band in Paste, which includes a link to a fire-side acoustic performance with three songs ("Deathbridge in Lethbridge", "In the Summertime", and another song I've never heard before).

RAA in Paste

Enjoy.
