Rage against the machine and The Hives - any single!
The White Stripes - fell in love with a girl, astro, blue orchid,
Alexisonfire - hey it's your funeral mama, control
Primus - jerry was a race car driver, john the fisherman, great the sacred cow
Interpol - slow hands, evil, c'mere
Ladytron - seventeen, destroy everything you touch

It's weird that some people mentionned bands like Battles and Explosions in the sky for "Pump up" music....

I don't think I'll ever get sick of referencing that commercial.

On a super literal note, how about Elvis Costello's "Pump It Up".

Most of the Battle's music I don't think would fit, but "Atlas" is huge and has a driving rhythem that makes you want to run faster. And Explosions in the Sky make music that makes you want to stand up and fight something. They were in a Football movie.

You are right though. They would sound dumb on a mix disk with the rest of these bands.

Why not? The bulk of their classic albums were released on SST, an indie label.

That song legit gets me pumped. I feel like a badass after hearing it, even if I'm not really.

Yeah, your comment reminded me to add "2 Legit" by MC Hammer to the list.

It's the best song he's written in like 20 years. Also, what pumps you up more than a man in really baggy pants.

They are still in the TV series that that football movie was adapted to. (Very good series, at that.)

The two best live shows I've ever seen were both Explosions. They're a religious experience live. But I don't know if I'd say they got me "pumped up" Wink

If you like Explosions in the Sky, find God speed you Black Emperor! - Kicking Horse on Broken Hill. It was my fight song for several years.

Add to the list:
Hot Hot Heat - Get in or Get Out
Knapsack - Cinema Stare
Cracker - 100 Flower Power Maximum

I get pumped by groups that play their guitars as a percussion instrument.

well at the risk of starting a another debate about the definition of indie I will just say I always thought of them as more of a hardcore punk band, at least the earlier stuff.

Back in high school, we had the best pump-up basketball song ever created: it's a cover of Black Sabbath's Supernaut by 1000 Homo DJs. You can find it on the album Nativity in Black: A Tribute to Black Sabbath.

I don't know if it qualifies as indie (does a cover of a non-indie song by an indie band count?), but I kid you not, this is the best song to start the warm up. I registered at the Metacritic forums just so I could mention it.

Great contribution there, ballz, hopefully musicpaw can use it. But now that you are here on the forums you might as well post away in anything else you want. There are forums about books, movies, TV and even a general discussion where we discuss everything else.

I look forward to seeing you around and welcome.

Talib Kweli - Get By
White Stripes - Icky Thump

I think some of these songs may be a bit long. I would go with quick upbeat songs, and I tend to think of the Thermals.

I would go with Returning to the Fold as my Indie Pump up Song.

The three songs I would have chosen from Interpool as well. Good call.
