Does anyone know whats up with Godspeed? Are they done? I like Silver Mt. Zion and Le Fly Pan Am but I was hoping for one last record from GY!BE.

GY!BE aren't together anymore. The band stopped making music right after their last album in 2002: "Yanqui UXO". I'm pretty sure it is because they became a little too famous and maybe there was too much pressure on them...

I thought I heard something on the grapevine about them doing one more album. Anywho, as of research last night it looks like A Silver Mt. Zion is touring the states for the first time. Denver 8/24 - I'll be there!

godspeed are still together. They're touring europe right now and they start their north american trek in july.

Dude, did you not pay attention to the band's website. That tour is for A Silver Mt. Zion, not Godspeed You! Black Emperor. It explicitly states right underneath those tour dates that there are no plans for a Godspeed tour.

oh god, my bad. I tend to skim a lot. Now i'm annoyed cos' i really wanted godspeed to come to Australia. Damn.

That's okay. I think most of us would like to see another GYBE tour and album, whether it will ever happen is anyone's guess.

I'd give it 'til.... 2008 or so.

This is pretty anal, I know - but is the exclamation point really after you? I always though it was Godspeed You Black Emperor! and not Godspeed You! Black Emperor. The second way sounds like William Shatner is saying it...

I totally agree. That's always struck me pretentious bullshit.

I know this is kind of off subject but does anyone know what type of guitar David Bryant uses? It is the one that has the strange split head and natural wood body with two stripes. Bruce Cawdron plays a guitar with a similar style head. If any one knows the type of either of these guitars it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure it's a Travis Bean. They have split metal headstocks and wooden bodies with stripes. Google: Travis Bean Guitars and look at their website. There is a pic on the front page of one that matches that description.

another side project that I don't think anybody has mentioned is 1-speed bike.. much different than anything that GY!BE released. some samples of his songs on aquariusrecords.com

Great bands shouldn't breakup; it should be against the law.

The way I understand it...
Every release except Yanqui is officially Godspeed You Black Emperor! Their name was taken from a weird Japanese film about a biker gang, and due to mistranslation or something they got the ! in the wrong place. So, between Lift Yr. Skinny Fists... and Yanqui they "corrected" the mistake to Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

I'm not certain on their status as a band, and I've yet to check out the side projects but seeing Godspeed live would really mean a lot to me, hope if they are broken up they can have a change of heart.
