(although National is more Joy Division II if anything...)

I'm a huge National fan and while I enjoy the new album, it is their weakest to date. Reviewers seem to be suffering from a TV On the Radio Syndrome with it, giving high make-up reviews.

Weaker than their S/T debut?

I don't have a clue as to how this resembles modest mouse in any way. Regardless, it's a great album that's currently in my top 5 for this year. I love that its compositions seem simple but actually employ a great level of complexity.

Well, well, well. If there ever were an album where you could forgive the slower parts, it's this one. And other of this band's output, also. If you enjoy this one you're a--wait for it--...

Its nearly impossible to refer to this album without using the word 'grower'. it really is worth sticking with, yes there are no 'Abel' or 'Mr November' style tracks, which can at first make it slightly underwhelming but give it a few listens and it works excellently as an album as a whole.

I really like "growers", so I picked this one up. The enjoyment scale slowly rose and I have listened to it 6 times. But I fear that it is in fact pop music and like many other records that I had on constant spin, it will loose the novelty factor and recede into the night. It sounds a little like interpol in some section but not nearly as intriging. I feel as if it is a good album and I do respect their talent. But besides maybe sufjan stevens I will always have trouble accepting any record that sounds prodominantly pop.

I just bought this album yesterday. I downloaded it before, and it was sitting on my computer for almost a month. After being bored and fed-up with whatever I was listening to. I decided to give Boxer a chance. One of the best albums I've heard all year. I love when I get surprised like that, it seems more rewarding. One of our decades best.

The drums on this album still blow me away. They just sound awesome.

This has surpassed Neon Golden to become my favorite album ever.

The sign of a great album: different favorite song every time you listen to it (either that or you say "This is my favorite" whenever any of their songs play). Current favorite: Green Gloves.

While the album as a whole still hasn't appealed to me, the drumming is stellar.

Did anybody catch The National on Letterman last night? Their attitude was just perfect for their set, and while I wishe they would have performed Mistaken for Strangers, the brass section on Fake Empire sounded great. I hope some people fell in love for The National for the first time last night.

Check out their concert on NPR's All Songs Considered. A terrific show. Great song selection, and great sound. I'm at work, so I can't link it, but if you go to NPR, you can follow the link on the left side of the page. Lot's of other great shows worth checking out as well!

Nor me; I find the guy's vocal register and delivery troubling. Musically I rather like it, but I don't think I'll be able to get past the vocals.

I rather enjoy his voice. Not least because it's not the same trebly indie whine that you hear everywhere.
