Yeah, but my second listen straight through was probably more boring than the first one. As I said elsewhere, I must be turning into a curmudgeon. (I don't believe that though.)

I hate to say it, but this album is more gripping to me than Alligator. It's quickly launched into my top ten. Still, "secret meeting" is the best song I've heard by this band.

This album wasn't a grower for me. I loved it the first time I heard it. Easily in my top five for the year so far.

After numerous listens I think this is a really good album, but its not as good as Alligator. Putting "Green Gloves" and "Slow Show" back to back at tracks 5 and 6 drags a tad. "Apartment Story" picks things up but then "Start a War" is right after it at track 8. "Racing Like a Pro" at track 10 is another quiet, acoustic number. Every song is good, its just the upbeat tracks that emphasize the drums are so much better and the 2nd half of the album doesn't have enough of them. Still, easily top 5 of the year material overall. Very good album.

"Mistaken for Strangers" is my no. 1 song of the year so far. It's just so freaking amazing.

"Apartment Story" is the stand-out track for me. Damn, though - solid album all the way through, except for maybe "Racing Like A Pro".

Finally got this album. It's good, but I'm not saying it's one of my top 5 of the year.

I actually enjoy "Racing Like A Pro" quite a bit. Why do you consider it to be a weaker song?

It takes the energy down a little too low, and the chorus is weak. Still, it's not bad per se, just not as good as the rest of the album.

Oh, my. I relistened to it today, and ended up listening to it three times through. It's amazing. It *might* even top Hissing Fauna or Neon Bible..?

most of the album really bores me but fake empire & mistaken for strangers are pretty decent. i can see fake empire making it on my year end list but not the album. for now, it'll collect dust.

p.s. my mom likes the album.. BURN

I actually think my favorite track on the album is 'Guest Room,' but nobody else has mentioned it...

I really like this album. But it does sound like the bastard child of an unholy alliance between Death Cab for Cutie and Crash Test Dummies.

This is the second time I've heard Tindersticks mentioned alongside The National. All I know is that they had a wonderfully atmospheric song at the end of last week's Sopranos. Could you say a little more about them, sk? I'm intrigued.

(although National is more Joy Division II if anything...)
