A friend of mine put together a Mix CD Swap over at Swap-Bot. You have to sign-up at Swap-Bot, which is free, and then join our group. Once you join the group, you have until March 5, 2008 to make your mix and send it out. Here's the description she wrote about our group:
Like myself, I know there are a lot of people out there who dig indie music. I'm going to loosely state that I am going to consider 'Indie' in this case to be defined by a sound, not a record label status.
Bands like Of Montreal, Dr. Dog, The Bird and the Bee, even The White Stripes are some examples.
For this swap you will have 1 partner.
Since cds are cheap to send, this will be an international swap.
Please include a minimum of 15 songs on your cd.
Please also include a tracklisting.
Newbies are welcome.
Please contact me first though if you have any 'no sends' on your record.
So, come have some fun with us making mixes. I think it'll be really cool. Maybe if enough of us do it and decide we'd like to do it again, we could do an Metacritic Forums Mix CD swap.
Sounds like a cool idea. I just don't know if I have a good enough of a grasp on what "indie" music sounds like. So I apologize in advance for providing someone with an album of either folk or funk tunes.
I never hated any of you/I loved you all at the time

How exactly does this work? You just make one disc and send it to one person?

Once sign-ups are closed you get a partner, you send your one disk to that partner.
And to DrAwesome: In the description she mentions a folk band (Dr. Dog) a lof-fi twee type band (The Bird and The Bee) and a band who has recently learned how to get funky (of Montreal). No worries.

Then what?

Then you receive your mix that the nice, random person sent you, and you have the joy of a homemade mix made (im)personally for you. You might find a new band or song that you love, it might give you new perspective on a song depending on what tracks it's coupled with.
Some people throw in extra little things too, just to personalize and add their own little flair.
I'm looking at it as a way to make mixes for people who will appreciate them, since most of my mixes either go to noone or go to a a person who I'm trying to get to broaden their horizons. Shadrach commented me on the site telling me that he loves making mixes and personal album art, but rarely has anyone to give them to; now we get to share our passion.
This is a really cool idea and I would definitely be in if I was in the States right now, but since shipping packages is quite expensive in Sweden I am still on the fence. But if you guys can keep this up until the summer than I am definitely in.

Yes, it would be by mail... I think it's much better that way.
I have no clue what shipping is like, but if you wanna do it then check the ups site and see how much it would be. It's an international swap so you're most welcome. If it's too expensive, well.. if you're interested you might be able to get a Swedish or European one going.

They say on the site that it's "international". So it wouldn't be outside the rules for you to join. It would cost more for you, and I'm not saying that a huge factor. But I know I personally wouldn't mind, as someone living in the states, to pay a little more to send a package out of the country, if it meant I could recieve a cool package from Sweden with a bunch of awesome stamps on it. Also, I want to know what Swedish bubble wrap tastes like...
That's just me though.... right?

I am considering joining and sending a mix CD. I am just worried about sending someone an 18-song CD and then finding out they have already heard 15 of those songs.

Then they've found three songs that they might have never heard. And they feel warm and fuzzy because someone took the time to make something for them.
