Uhhh... it's really really good? I like it a lot more than Shut Up, I Am Dreaming. How does everyone else think it compares to the last album and any thought on the Snake's Got A Leg LP? I haven't heard it and I've been wondering what it's like..
This album is great. What I think really stands out is that the production is much better. Shut Up had good songs but because it was less of a band dynamic and more lo-fi, they didn't all seem to achieve the potential they could have.

I don't know, my main block to this is that I still hate Krug's voice.
There certainly is a lot of emotion in his voice, but I agree, he does not have much of a singing voice AT ALL. It's a good thing the album is so strong from a lyrical standpoint because the vocals vacillate all too often between engaging and intolerable. I guess that can be said for the production as well: sometimes it's perfect, but sometimes it's muddy and cluttered.
I still like the album, especially the second half, but I guess I'm just not as crazy about the record as a lot of the other posters...

OK, my most anticipated album since Spoon/Interpol.
Damn, I hate when albums leak REALLY early, because I have to suffer through the praise for albums without actually hearing them for that much longer. October 2? Damn.

I thought it was October 9th. The 2nd would be awesome though, because it's the day before my birthday.
If you haven't checked out the Snake's Got a Leg LP, and you are Spencer Krug fan, I would suggest it. It's not for anyone that isn't already a fan though. A lot of experimentation on it. A lot of it is early versions of songs on the second album, and of course the older version of I'll Believe in Anything, which is rough, but has it's own character. There are a few other gems hidden in the noise too. It's worth checking out if you are interested. I haven't regretted buying it.

I couldn't get past the first song, and I didn't even hate it, I was just too excited to listen to the new M.I.A. . I'll listen to it soon though, same with the new Fiery Furnaces.

It may take me some time too, but on first listen I get irritated with how angular and proggy (i.e. too many extraneous chord changes and no real development of anything) it is.
I really dig the guitar stuff on the first track, but then the player kinda beats that little turn into the ground...

I dunno, my favorite by far so far is the one after that - the Taming of the Hands that Came back to Life. For whatever reason I'm liking the second half of the album quite a bit better than the first. Of course I'm enjoying the Mending of the Gown, along with the Courtesan Has Sung. I guess I'm kinda picking it up a song at a time - it's pretty dense.
I really can't wait to hear the album. I love records that people can't agree on which track is the best.
A good album usually always has a stand out track on it that everyone can agree on. Think about 'Everything all the Time' and 'Gulag Orchestar'. An excellent album splits people into factions that all agree that it's an amazing album but are in disagreement when they find out why other people like it. Think 'Boxer'.
