My favorite of these is Panda Bear. I'd be suprised if there were a release I liked more than Person pitch the year. I also really love LCD Soundsystem, Andrew Bird, and Modest Mouse. Another cd I like just as much as those three is EL-P's I'll Sleep With Your Dead, also released Tuesday. It has a metascore of 84 with plenty of reviews too. Other notables albums released Tuesday would be Radical Face- Ghost The Ponys- Turn The Lights Out. Both of those records I'd consider good, but not great releases.

Two of my very favorite bands that no one seems to ever mention on these forums also released solid records on Tuesday: Jesse Malin and The Ponys.
Now the question is, which date was better, 3/20/07 or 10/03/06, which featured new releases by The Hold Steady (Metascore: 85), The Decemberists (84), Beck (73), The Dears (79), The Killers (64), The Kooks (73), Subtle (85), The Pernice Brothers (78), Robyn Hitchcock (80), and Sean Lennon (68)?

Once, back in the early 70's, there was an old man sitting next to the railroad tracks off in the middle of nowhere. He knew two chords, and he would spend his days plucking chord tones over and over and over (and over and over) as the occasional forest animal would cross the tracks whenever a train wasn't passing through. Sometimes, a sedated woodpecker would stop by and beat out some repetitive rhythms, to the delight of the old man. Oddly, just a few feet away, someone had stashed the Mamas and the Papas at the bottom of a (veeery deep) well, where they would sing along to the pickin', stumming and clickin they could hear from above. Even more strangely, someone had left a tape recorder there next to the old man to get for all eternity the odd mix of noise and the sometimes lovely melodies. Alas, many years later, the tape was handed over to Panda Bear, who decided to release it on March 20,2007 as Person Pitch.
Sorry, I'll keep trying, but this is my impression of it a few listens in. Many people who have similar taste just love it, so maybe I'll come around. Just sayin...

Lindsey Buckingham and Beach House also had releases that day.

I haven't heard the Ponys record (I hadn't even heard of the band until a few weeks ago.) But the stuff I've come across on the Web has been great, and it's at the top of my list of things to get when my eMusic downloads refresh in a couple of days. I have listened to the Jesse Malin record a few times. As far as I'm concerned, the Entertainment Weekly review is spot on: It's hard to dislike an album with this many solid tunes. That said, I think Malin is going to end up being a whipping boy among indie fans. Album three is when a lot of people start demanding reinvention. But instead of overhauling his sound, Malin made arguably his most commercial record, a big, brawny rock record that strays dangerously close to slickness in a couple of spots. I predict a Pitchfork score of 4.8 or thereabouts (if they deign to review it at all) and a lot of derision among the trend-conscious.

I like Person Pitch so far, but I feel like it will get better the more I listen to it. I am also digging Patrick Wolf's newest, The Magic Position. The title track off that is wonderful. I just got the new LCD Soundsystem and so far (maybe 2 full listens through) the jury is still out on it for me. I don't see where are these 90's and whatnot are coming from, it seems soild but not amazing.
